I think the problem lies in the fact that none of these kids has ever played in a truly 'big' game while floundering at lowly Iowa, save for maybe the NIT games last year. They have zero experience being ranked, on the road in a hostile environment vs. another ranked team. So Marble standing at the line in crunch time in a big game like that is likely his first time ever and he was likely nervous as Hell. Not an excuse by any means, but it is what it is.

you're right but we were clearly the better team on the floor last night...dominated every stat except for the most important one

This should have been a win last night. I will say this, the refs kept Iowa St in this game all night long. The refs made a number of questionable calls against Iowa.

This team needs to learn how to grind out wins. Having a stronger post player to run the ball through would be a start. Would love to see some ISOs for White during crunch time. Given the height advantage, the ISU front court should have been in foul trouble...or had been fouled out.
