I was too young in 1997.

But I'm old enough to know that Michigan is better in 2016 so that's cool at least.

I will take that as a Nebraska vote.

Well us and the AP poll voters.

In that final AP poll, only three of Michigan's opponents ended up being ranked with only one in the Top Ten.

Nebraska beat final ranked #7 Tennessee 42-17. Tennessee was SEC Champion.
Nebraska beat final ranked #8 Kansas State 56-26, Kansas State's only loss.
Michigan beat #10 final ranked Washington State 21-16.

That same poll, FIVE of Nebraska's Opponents ended up being ranked, with two Top Tens.

Michigan opponents that went to bowl games went a perfect 0-6. Average loss was by 20 points.

Two of Nebraska's bowl opponents won their game. One of Nebraska's Opponents that ended up in the Top Ten and had only one loss on the season.

Nebraska played the SEC Champion, the SEC went 6-1 in bowl games. The only SEC loss was their SEC Champion to Nebraska.

Michigan played great against the bad teams, Nebraska played great against the good teams.

Let's talk about the OOC that year.

Michigan beat a Baylor team in Ann Arbor that ended up 2-9.
Michigan beat a Colorado team in Ann Arbor that went 5-6.

Nebraska went on the road and beat a Washington team 27-14 in Seattle. Washington went to a bowl game and destroyed Big 10 Michigan State 51-23. Washington ended up being ranked and 8-4.

Washington final AP ranking, #18.

I'm not sure why people think it's so cut and dry? Michigan faced 6 teams that were in the top 15 when we played them and beat them all. In the last 3 games of the season we beat the #2 and #4 ranked teams.
