I'm tell you, you hired Brady Hoke 2.0.I cannot comment as Mike is a really nice guy. From what I understand, they quit making defensive coordinators like Mark Banker.
Shawn Eichorst, the athletic misdirector, fire him.

Comparing Hoke to Riley is an insult to Riley. Riley has a much more proven track record.
With that said I don't think he should have been hired at Nebraska. Odd fit given Riley's history/age/geographical footprint etc...
Mike Riley college record 95-83 (NFL 14-34)
Brady Hoke college record 78-70
Beyond his extremely losing years in the NFL, they're the same person. Super nice guys who aren't bad at coaching football, but aren't that good either.
I don't think he's going to do any better at Nebraska than Hoke did at Michigan. The fact he was even able to land a gig in the NFL should mean something. Also Riley was compiling that record at Oregon State, one of the toughest P5 jobs in the country. And it's probably the 2nd hardest job in the Pac 10/12 behind Washington State(We'll see how Utah/Colorado do, but they are still in their infancy)
I'm not saying Riley is great or anything, but he had 15 years of experience at a P5 school and 3 years in the NFL. Oregon State was a complete dumpster fire before he got there. IMO Riley is a much better coach than Hoke.

The hire was head scratching in it's entirety. I suspect they'll have another shot at it in 3-4 years.I don't think he'll be that overly successful at Nebraska either. But that has more to do with fit than the quality of the coach. Plus hiring a 62 year old, doesn't make much sense for a job like Nebraska.
