Phillies OF Odubel Herrera was suspended 85 games for violating Major League Baseball's joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy.
The suspension is retroactive to June 24 and will also include any postseason games in the event that the Phillies make the playoffs. Herrera had been on administrative leave since May 28 when he was arrested for the incident. Despite the fact that the charges against him --including simple assault and knowingly causing bodily injury -- were dropped, MLB still had every right to level this suspension. Herrera has agreed to the punishment and will not appeal. He will also participate in a "confidential, comprehensive evaluation and treatment program".
