Alabama was mired in mediocrity for 25 years after Bear.

In some ways I don't really have an issue with folks who fire Coaches who get 9 wins.

It's in the eyes of the beholder.

If a school expects to contend for a National Title, year in and year out, 9 wins won't cut it.

You can only expect what you demand. You cannot expect to contend for the NC and then accept
9-win seasons. Now if some guy wins double digit games for 4 or 5 years, then has a 9-win campaign
it probably would be wrong to can him, but if the coach is maxing out at 9 wins, get rid of him.

There are schools that would give a coach a 3-mile long parade if the Coach got them 9 wins and there
are other schools that will show him the door with 9 wins. Depends on the expectations

IMHO part of that was the firing of Coach Curry. Coach Bryant left the cupboards a bit bare and Coach Curry was righting the ship. IMHO he was brought in to be fired after changing some of Bear's traditions, like tearing down the tower. He did lose to Auburn 3 times in a row and that was a cardinal sin.

I have maintained that Coach Cutcliffe has the best job in the NCAA because of this.

Oh yeah.

Same for Grobe when he was at Wake Forest. He was only 61-60 there, something like that, but they
were thrilled. You gotta work harder, but if you can weather the first three years and redshirt all your
Frosh classes, you can become a competitive program, and your fan base will love you.
