Alabama fired Coach Curry after a 10-1, top 5 season if memory serves.

That 1 loss was to Auburn, his 3rd in a row, and 4th in a row for Alabama. You don't lose to Auburn 3 years in a row and stay head coach at Alabama.

But - Technically Curry left on his own and went to Kentucky. He wasn't actually fired - formally anyway.

I agree. As I said, it was a cardinal sin. He was ran off, not fired.

I'm assuming 9 wins is a 75% winning percentage.

The last 3 Ohio State coaches (not including interim 1 year Luke Fickell) have all been fired, albeit not always completely for performance:

Woody Hayes: 76.1% (punched a player)
Earle Bruce: 75.5% (performance)
John Cooper: 71.5% (performance, especially in rivalry game)
Jim Tressel: 81% (NCAA Violations)

If you take a job with high expectations, you better perform because those who really pull the strings (hello, big money people) don't tolerate missing targets for long.

In some ways I don't really have an issue with folks who fire Coaches who get 9 wins.

It's in the eyes of the beholder.

If a school expects to contend for a National Title, year in and year out, 9 wins won't cut it.

You can only expect what you demand. You cannot expect to contend for the NC and then accept
9-win seasons. Now if some guy wins double digit games for 4 or 5 years, then has a 9-win campaign
it probably would be wrong to can him, but if the coach is maxing out at 9 wins, get rid of him.

There are schools that would give a coach a 3-mile long parade if the Coach got them 9 wins and there
are other schools that will show him the door with 9 wins. Depends on the expectations

Yep. If my team ever had nine wins the coach would get a lifetime contract.
