Obviously there are way too many Bowls, it is kind of funny, when there were few bowls people cried for more because the Bowls were really good and for the most part only really good schools went to them. Now we get a bunch of crap bowl games.

FIRST TIER
Rose Bowl
Cotton Bowl
Peach Bowl
Sugar Bowl
Orange Bowl
Fiesta Bowl

All involved in the playoff and cream of the crop.

SECOND TIER

Alamo Bowl
Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl
Outback Bowl
Sun Bowl
Belk Bowl
Music City
Russell Athletics Bowl
Pinstripe Bowl
Holiday Bowl

THIRD TIER

Everybody else.

The bowls should be dramatically cut.

Personally, I don't really consider any of them "legit". Unless its for the Natty (or now a playoff game), its just a meaningless exhibition. Fun to watch and I'm fine with them existing, but I'm not thumping my chest going "Orange Bowl champs ftw!" I feel the same beating a good team in September as a I do in January. I don't need any extra pageantry put on it just because its a thing to do.

says the guy whose team lost to kansas in the orange bowl. yeah i'm sure you don't say that. :dhd:

sorry, I couldn't help myself

I'd really say only the New Year's Six are "legit". This is the best teams in the country, many in rare meetings. This to me is what the bowls were meant to be. I wouldn't say they are legit but I have 3 bowls (Citrus, Outback, St. Peterburg) within a 90 minute drive so I would keep them even though the St. Pete hasn't had a matchup that I'd watch live for free.

As far as which of the other bowls to get rid of, I really don't care. I would only have 20 bowls. 20 bowls if my math is correct gets you the top 6 teams in every power 5 conf and each winner of the group conferences. Of course it could be 7 from a couple of conferences and 4 from another or 2 AAC or Mountain West or whatever. I would keep the .500 rule in place but with only 20 bowls you're pretty much guaranteed that everyone has 7 wins or more. Over half of the teams in the country make bowl games and that doesn't sit well with me. You may be able to convince me to keep 25 but I'll go with 20.

Because getting to a bowl shouldn't be akin to your kids getting a participation trophy and that's pretty much what it's become.

Just reaching .500 didn't used to be good enough. Winning 8 wasn't a guarantee and they played less games. It was a reward for the best of the best. A chance for their fans to celebrate a well above average season.

Now, go play 3 pieces of shit in your OOC and find a way to go 3-6 in conference and that's good enough to deserve a fucking reward? :burt: And don't even start with the conferences that have only 8 conference games that really only have to go 2-6 in conference.

It's a total joke.

I think you should have to not only be above .500 overall, but above .500 IN CONFERENCE. Get that weak ass shit out of here.

Don't look at bowl games as rewards for good teams. Bowl games are not rewards anymore. They're just another opportunity to watch football. The playoffs are the only games in which teams have something to play for.

Post near-years are the best. The rest are scrub bowls.

Saw yesterday that there is a group out of Chicago wanting to host a new bowl to be played at Wrigley Field. Add that to Ireland and Dubai for some more!

When my team wins = legit Bowl
When my team loses = Didn't want to be there

If you don't like the Bowl matchups don't watch the Bowl matchups.

Anyone remember the first bowl game?

We didn't have TV's or radios back then. We'd all gather at the train depot and get the play by play off the telegraph machine.

The only legit post season games are the playoffs, the rest mean squat.

Yep. The rest are merely a vacation for players/fans and a way for the bowls/bowl executives and cities to make money. Basically tourism.

But, I watch most of 'em.

If I got to make the rules 8 wins would be the minimum threshold for a team to go to a bowl game. We have something like 43 post-season bowl games....I'd cut it back to about 25.

Also if I got to make the rules FBS teams would no longer be allowed to schedule FCS teams during the regular season. But that's another story.

What ever happened to the Bluebonnet Bowl. I think that used to be the pre New Years Day bowl game way back when.

Anything Dec 30th or later, typically. The NY6 bowls are an easy cut-off, but there are some other high paying bowls that one could easily consider 'legit' (Russell Athletic, Gator, Capital One)

Odd to see multiple people put the Sun Bowl as a 2nd tier bowl, considering the Sun Bowl takes maybe like the 5th or 6th best team from the ACC.

Yep.

Nebraska played in that one against Texas Tech back in 1976. Legend is, boosters told Tom Osborne that if he didn't win that game he'd be fired.

It still pisses me off that the Alamo Bowl took the #2 pac spot ahead of the Holiday Bowl. The Holiday Bowl is (should be) the better Bowl.
