Game Thread: Week 15: Buffalo Bills at Denver Broncos

Time flies when you are fun, even if the Broncos season has not been as fun as we had hoped. We did have an enjoyable game against the Panthers. Hopefully the illness issues that hit Bolles and Fant do not affect any other players, and that Bolles and Fant are able to recover and play against the Bills.

This is a game that is 2 teams at different places. Buffalo is looking to win the AFC East and secure their playoff position, while the Broncos are in building for 2021 mode. Just because we are in a building for 2021 doesn't mean that we are rolling over however.

In watching some pre-game shows prior to the week 14 games, they talked about running the ball right at the Buffalo defensive line to have success. This should like a perfect Melvin Gordon game as he is the more powerful back. I also think going more 2 TE sets maybe a good move protection and/or some ability to create some match up issues, especially if Fant is good to go. Pat Shurmur seems to be getting a bit of a rhythm calling plays for Lock and the offense to have more success, and that will need to continue. It was very encouraging to see Lock check it down until the deep shot is open. I hope we see more and more of that we finish the season.

On defense we will need to be able to get pressure on Allen without blitzing due to all of our starting CBs not being available due to injury or suspension. Our LBs and Ss will end up helping with coverage. I have faith in Fangio to create a game plan to be competitive.

I think this is a game that we can win but it will take a good game all around and we will not be able to turn the ball over.

I’m still not sold on Josh Allen yet. But that Bills D is legit. If Lock can go out there and ball against that D, it will make me very excited. Otherwise, I can’t say I’m expecting a W on Saturday.

The really amazing thing is - McManus when he misses - often hits the goal post, but the ball never bounces inside the posts. He's putting the wrong spin on the balls. That's my story.

QB Allen has surprised me in his development.

Tolliver and Dawson both out for season with knee injuries, joining Bassey from last week.
Nate Hairston will join team this week and probably have to use PS CB Chris Cooper and sign someone to come in next week.

I would also expect Alijah Holder to play some CB for us the rest of the season. His college position. Probably sign another CB this week but won't join us until next week. Probably have to activated Cooper for the game this week.

I spoke to Duke Dawson today, he is going to stay around Denver and do this rehab. I think that will be beneficial to him a lot of guys go home and do their rehab. I think it will help him mentally to stay around the facilities and be around positive minds to help him get through this. Injuries can take such a toll on a player mentally. He tore his ACL and sprained his MCL and LCL. His rookie year with NE he spent the year on IR (not a bad injury, sort of an injury and store him for next year) and last year he missed time with the toe injury.

2 have been cut this year and the 3rd benched

I have been sold on Allen since his soph year in college but if you remember I always said it depends on the team he goes to. I wasn’t confident he would be great in Denver but I was confident he would be great on about 27 out of 32 NFL teams. Denver hadn’t and still hasn’t proven to me they can develop a QB to their max.

SD/LA Chargers say see its not so hard to find a QB

Brees, Rivers (#1 pick) , Herbert last 20 years and will seems to continue for the next 10.

I was certainly gun shy on Allen due to his lack of accuracy in college and his low percentage completion rate. That has historically been a red flag in evaluating QBs. I’m really glad for him that I was wrong.
