His OBP is pretty mediocre and his BA is down 50 points from last year.

We aren't even 2 months completed in this year. Averages can still go up and drop .50 points easily from now til end of year. Nobody really believes Cruz will end up at .354 do they? .300 would be great which is a .54 point drop.

My point I guess is that I am not worried about stats on May 23rd. Now not seeing why he is where he is could be an issue much like Cano.

Any competent outfielder should always be considered here since we can't ever seem to find any.

One name to watch, if you want to go cheap, is ex-Mariner Harang. He has a sub 2 ERA in 10 starts with a 15/46 W/K ratio.

Only time he had a 4+ ERA since 2011 season was the one with us.

I prefer Hamels and Revere in a deal sending Walker/Hicks/Ackley back would be nice...and laughable.

Another combo I would like to acquire would be Kazmir and Zobrist. Both pending free agents and combined for $20.5M this year (about $15M remaining on the year). Not sure what the cost would be for the two, but they would be big gets for a run.

Scratch that thought I guess...

Scott Kazmir left his start Wednesday against the Tigers after experiencing left shoulder tightness.

He worked three hitless innings before giving way to reliever Dan Otero. Kazmir had struggled in his last handful of starts, so it's safe to wonder whether this shoulder issue has been a lingering thing. The 31-year-old southpaw has a long, well-chronicled history of arm injuries. He was supposed to be trade bait this season for the struggling Athletics.

I wouldn't trust Jack Z to deal with Beane anyway. We would get out manuvered somehow.

I don't know their farm system or if they really have anything on the MLB roster that we'd want and obviously they aren't sellers at the moment but a great partner would be the Padres, they need minor league depth and none of the M's top prospects are looking like sure things.

Wouldn't it be fitting if we end up with Justin Upton.

Jacks asks for Justin, ends up with BJ (The player).

I do like their SP Ross a lot.

Brewers are just about out of it. Braun putting together a nice season. Any interest and if so what would you give up?

He would be interesting choice. I think we talked about him on here a month back, but we are getting closer to a trade being more realistic in baseball (maybe not us). I think he fits our needs but comes with baggage obviously. I prefer Gomez, but Braun wouldn't be the worst pickup.

I would trade for Braun. Why not? Everyone wanted Melky and he tested positive. Cruz tested positive and look how much that affects what he's doing now. Braun would be a huge upgrade to our outfield.

My biggest worry honestly though is some starting pitching depth

Just guessing here, but if they were to trade Braun I would think they might want someone to take one of their high priced veteran pitchers off their hands as well. Big money commitment.

Garza $12.5M per through 2017
Lohse $11M per through 2015

Braun has 5 years left at $105M with 2021 mutual option plus pro rated $13M for this year. That is lots of $$$ just for Braun alone.

Well we do need some pitching if we want to actually compete this season, so if that was their offer and we could counter with them eating some of the money while sending something like DJ Peterson, Brad Miller, Ackley, and a mid tier prospect, I'm in. Braun makes Miller obsolete in the OF and Garza gives us a veteran to take Walker's spot because he clearly isn't ready to start, though he might be a valuable bullpen arm in the postseason.

Ya maybe. I kind of like Miller's bat (not his glove at SS). I know you have to give something up to get something, but with Braun's injury history I would still like to keep Miller around as the new Bloomie. Not really sure what I would give up. I think Peterson would have to be included and taking Ackley would be doing us a favor (maybe the NL is where he needs to be?).

GM: Mets willing to 'overpay' for hitter, but nothing available http://es.pn/1REAacS #NYM #Mets

---------------

I was concentrating on sending Cano back to Yanks and forgot all about the other NY team. If they are willing to overpay, or even bail us out, send his ass back to NY via the Mets.

Cano and Ackley (why not)

for

Lagares and Murphy.

Throw in Taylor and we can get back another prospect we can use.

I feel like the Mets would be downgrading at both spots.

It depends on how much faith the Mets have in Cano's ability to rebound. It could be a huge bargain for them if he does, but if he doesn't, they'd be losing considerably.

At this point I'd take anything for Cano if a team was willing to eat at least 75% of his salary. Even if he goes back to hitting .310-.320, the thought that we could be paying a guy $24m to hit .250 with 10-15 HRs really terrifies me.

Prior to this season, I felt like Cano was such a good hitter that even in his late 30s, he would be at worst a .270 hitter. Having seen him play a lot for the Yankees and last year for the Mariners, he just seemed to me like a guy who as he aged would lose his ability to hit homers, but wouldn't ever hit below .270 in his career. Who knows, maybe (as I've argued) this season is a fluke, and he may live up to those expectations, but the idea that he could hit like this at his salary makes me shudder.
