If Trubisky can out play the proverbial "bridge QB" status, then he won't worry about being the so called bridge QB. It's that simple. If you take a Qb in the 2nd rd this year, wouldn't that stop the FO from taking a QB in the 1st rd next year?
The allure of Trubisky (and to a lesser extent, Mariota) is that he still has the "he still might be good" mystery about him. I.e, he's got the physical tools, but the bears offense could've been a bad fit, bad coaches, early year jitters/pressure, etc.
It'll be interesting to see where Trubisky goes.
His former OC is the HC in NY. Their FO has publicly committed to Jones for another year, so Trubisky could get a "chance to compete" for the starting job while already knowing the offense. He doesn't step into NY being a bridge QB; he's the challenger and familiarity with the coaches could give him a couple of years to get his feet under him.
OTOH, Washington has a much better team around him AND the coaches could agree to name him the Day 1 starter as soon as he signs. THAT could be the Commies trump card b/c the NYG won't do that. But will he want to be the bridge QB?
