If Meyer admits knowing about it and not taking action — he will be fucked. I would bet he takes the Paterno route and pretends he knew nothing.
Unfortunately for Meyer — with technology these days — it is impossible to remember if you’ve mentioned or said something about in a text or email, etc.
What was he supposed to do actually?

He's done nothing wrong. There's no way you're going to prove that he did anything that further enabled the abuse or put her in danger. The police were involved. She chose not to file charges. What's he gonna do, fire a coach for not being arrested/charged for abuse?

Yes

If they conclude that Meyer had heard about the allegations the only thing he would be "guilty" of is lying to a media member. No charges/convictions were brought against Smith at the time, and according to the texts (if they're true), Urban had a he said/she said situation on his hands. If he's fired, he could and should sue the university.
If he had that he said/she said, in today's environment, he probably should have erred on the side of caution. "Coach, you need to get your personal life straightened out more than you need to coach receivers. Take some time off because this ain't gonna look good for any of us." That should have been in '15. He might not have had to fire him a few days ago. Who knows?

But, it is easy for us to sit here on the sidelines and say what he should have done. It is just a different world now.

At any rate, Kirby needs to start getting in Harry Miller's ear and see if he can get the kid to stay home and play college ball at Athens.

Fire the coach for being a woman beater?!? He represents major universities and the coaches he brings in, not only represents him, but the school as well.
Also — he is the father of at least one daughter (could be more, I’m not sure of his family) before he is a football coach.

Not going to go through this whole thread, so it may have been posted, but this was posted on reddit earlier this morning

Yeah I thought there were people telling her to not press charges/drop them.

He fired him because he knew the shut storm was coming and he wanted to look pro active
That's like closing the gate after the cows are already out of the pasture.

Did Urban have a hand in sending people to persuade/influence the beaten wife? :noidea:

He fired him because he knew the shut storm was coming and he wanted to look pro active
Or was it because the wife talked? :noidea:

For sure, but if he uses the Paterno defense. He can try to say the first he heard of anything was July and he fired him. Not saying it will look good, but it makes sense

That's like closing the gate after the cows are already out of the pasture.

My grandpa had a couple sections of fence make a tight zig zag pattern and a gap in the fence between them that a grown man had to turn sideways to walk through that had successfully kept horses in the pasture for years. Two longhorn cows managed to snake through the zig zag and squeeze through the opening without so much as breaking a board.

We had to track them fuckers through a WMA in the pouring rain. Took all day do drive them into another pasture that belonged to a family friend, who lived on the other side of the WMA.

I bet they made good steaks.

Excellent way to put it.
