agree. But it has always been a point of contention, trying to bunt late to break up a no hitter.

if the bunt is part of the hitters arsenal and the game is still close, I don't have an issue with the batter hunting to break up a No-No.

Fuck "unwritten rules."

If I feel like laying down a bunt, get your fat ass off the mound or down the line and field that shit. I don't care if you're throwing a perfect game and there's two out in the ninth.

Basically agree. I grew up playing with the "unwritten" rules, but I have never liked many of them. I think you should never stop trying to score. The losing team certainly isn't giving up (regardless of the score). There are no time limits in baseball, so anything is possible.

I have no problems with sitting dead red on fastball on an 3-0 count, but most won't even though they know it is coming. I have no problem with swinging first pitch after a pitcher has walked two guys, but most won't.

Yeah, that's an excellent example of an unwritten rule that most people have no problem with.

A no-hitter in the 9th maybe I could see him getting upset and even then if it's a 1 or 2 run game everything is fair game, imo. I've always thought most "unwritten" baseball rules were stupid but I never played the game competitively.

IMO in that situation bunting to break it up against a straight up defense is bad against a shift though
the so called "unfair advantage" gained by a shift in same situation the bunt is fine.

Actually made me think a little bit more here OBX.

Would be a huge discussion if it did happen someday. Okay for a guy with 20 or so bunt singles in a season and not a .238 batting slow footed catcher.

Erick Aybar did it to Verlander a few years ago. I believe it was the game were Jered Weaver was pisses off with the Tigers. I was arguing over it with some of my co-workers for days.

obx makes a good point: most batters today, the bunt is NOT a part of their arsenal. Back in the dead ball era they laid them down all the time, can't imagine a pitcher back then yelling at an opposing player to "swing the bat." Today's ball player is so un-used to a bunt they think it's bush league or something.

I haven't heard the follow-up on this. Did he back off or did he say something else about it?

I'm still surprised Rasmus let him run his mouth and show him up like that without taking a step or two toward the mound. Dude kinda looked like a punk.

"I told [Rasmus] I didn't appreciate it," Lewis said, according to MLB.com. "You're up by two runs with two outs and you lay down a bunt. I don't think that's the way the game should be played."

Lewis, who fell to 6-7 with the loss, felt Rasmus' bunt was a selfish act.

"I felt like you have a situation where there is two outs, you're up two runs, you have gotten a hit earlier in the game off me, we are playing the shift, and he laid down a bunt basically simply for average," Lewis said.

What a crock of shit. 2-0 is not a game that's over by any means. Fuck Colby in this situation. He's just pissed the shift didn't work. If they thought the game was out of hand at that point, the shift shouldn't have even been put on IMO.

if im down 2-0 in the 9th and can get on with a bunt im doing it. I don't give a shit about the opposing pitchers feelings and his shot at a no hit bid. im getting on base and bringing the tying run to the plate.

There's nothing with running up a score but you wouldn't bunt in that situation unless you're dying to get one in the ribs.

Yet you say something completely different when the Patriots do it.... Hmmmm...

But there really shouldn't be too many unwritten rules in any sport. as people have mentioned you get paid well to either score points/runs, etc or STOP it from happening.

When you don't even see Ranger fans trying to support his position.....

that's when you know Colby Lewis needs to STFU and let it go.

I forget which manager said it, but I love the saying. "When you stop trying to come back, we'll stop trying to add on."

There's some unwritten rules I like. Don't show boat after a homer and stuff like that.

But I don't have a problem with bunting for a hit with a big league or trying a bunt to break up a no hitter or any stuff like that.
