should there be such a thing at the major league level? I have a problem with teams running up scores in amateur sports. these guys are getting paid. they are big boys and should be able to handle getting their teeth kicked in

That's not even an unwritten rule.

In general, I'm in favor of traditional unwritten rules but then you get guys like Dallas Braden and Colby Lewis who introduce us to ones we didn't even know about. :rolleyes2:

There always have been and always will be unwritten rules in professional sports. But they change over time as the game changes.

Lewis may have had a slight point a few years ago before the rampant use of shifts. But he just sounds like a whining bitch when his infield is basically playing 2 SS and a 2B up the middle. If you give up that much ground, don't complain when a hitter bunts a ball down the 3rd base line at any point in the game. If you don't want it to happen anymore, try actually fielding a 3rd baseman.

There's nothing with running up a score but you wouldn't bunt in that situation unless you're dying to get one in the ribs.

This^. Some players are just big pussies and make shit up as they go.

I loved the Trout/Pooholes thing.

Exactly. Get cute with the shift, give the guy first base, then get pissed off and mouthy when he takes it.

Colby Lewis has been having his ass handed to him lately, and he snapped. He's a good guy, just a dumbass in this case.

If COlby had a no hitter, he has a point. If TOR is up by 10 runs in the 8th or 9th, colby has a point. Otherwise, 2 runs in the 5th...nothing about getting on base.

Yeah, that's an excellent example of an unwritten rule that most people have no problem with.

I haven't heard the follow-up on this. Did he back off or did he say something else about it?

I'm still surprised Rasmus let him run his mouth and show him up like that without taking a step or two toward the mound. Dude kinda looked like a punk.

Colby Lewis is a dumbass. What got sand in his vagina isn't part of some unwritten rule.

Bunting in the middle innings of a close game = Okay
Bunting when you put a shift on no matter the score = Okay
Bunting late in game against a normal defense when the score is out of control = Not okay

Don't put a shift on against a semi speedy guy & expect him not to bunt. How fucking stupid do you have to be to complain about that?

There it is! Colby Lewis actually had every reason to be pissed off.

Down 2-0 in the 5th is about as close to a No-Hitter as he's gonna get :laugh3:

MAybe on a no hit bid....maybe. The coach should not put a shift on in this case IMO.

My feelings on the up by 10 in 8th or 9th. The defense should be playing straight up also. Sportsmanship goes both ways. Gaining a advantage should go by the wayside if the so called unwritten rules are in effect.

Fuck "unwritten rules."

If I feel like laying down a bunt, get your fat ass off the mound or down the line and field that shit. I don't care if you're throwing a perfect game and there's two out in the ninth.

Of course a Mets fan would want to break up a perfect game

If he had a no hitter going, his beef should be with whoever positioned the defense in a way that made it easy to get a bunt hit.

agree. But it has always been a point of contention, trying to bunt late to break up a no hitter.
