It seems destined for disaster. Create a pile of 220-350 pound dude pushing. Someone in the pile is liable to get kicked, punched, crunched, twisted around, ending up in bottom of pile well north of ton, etc. Does not seem like a good play.

When did it become ok? I swear it used to be a penalty to assist the ball carrier like that.

Keep it
End it

Whatever they want to do it doesn’t matter. The Eagles will still be the best QB sneak team, the best 3rd and short, the best 4th and short team in the NFL. Their QB is short enough to find the gaps but squats 600 pounds and he’s lining up behind a Hall of Fame center and arguably the best of his generation to ever play the position.

I initially didn’t like it, and I felt that it was something like pass interference, where if you could do that legally, no one would ever catch anything. But then I thought, this rewards them for developing a good play and drafting players that is optimal for this play. They did the work, they deserve the rewards. It’s not cheating. It’s just highly effective.

Other teams aren’t able to replicate it at nearly the same rate so that’s what makes it not the same as allowing pass interference. If every team could pass interfere with it never being a penalty, then every team would have the same advantage. This is different. They have specific players for it.

So those calling for it to end doesn’t make as much sense because once the Eagles do not have as good of all line, the effectiveness will go down. And if it is innovation, as opposed to strength, then it’s just evolution.

The ball goes over the top of it.

2005 apparently, but it seems like it took a while for teams to take advantage.
Pats used to do it with Brady but with only one pusher and with less regularity as the Eagles. Pats might do it once every 3 games. Eagles have had games where they have employed it 3-4 times.

I saw the Bills use it once or twice this season, but now they seem to be actively refusing to do it. Josh would seem the perfect QB to do this with, given his size. Still not sold on their OC.

This play is too good! They need to ban it since everyone is getting first downs and it’s so unfair!

Oh wait…

Do you know the history of how American football adopted the forward pass? Hint: it was to prevent plays like this since it was causing people to die on the field.

This reminds me of when the NHL introduced the trapezoid because Brodeur was so good at playing the puck.

If you can't stop it, ban it. Ridiculous.
