This just in - Marco sucks. He’s no better than a number 3 or 4 starter on a team.... Sad that he’s our number one.

Spot on with Marco - Pretty sad state of your teams starting pitching when its around a couple weeks prior to the AS break and your staff 'ACE' is still looking for his 2nd win of the season

And related to the Shed Long comment above: Would it not be for the Mariners pathetic existence ... Shed Long is languishing in AA ball for some other organization who is fully aware that he is NOT MLB talent.

ETA a positive Ms note from last nites game: Jake Fraley 4 AB's and on base all 4 times ( 2 base knocks and 2 BB ) - I am quickly becoming a fan of J Fraley.

I'm seeing a lot more...er, unfamiliar names in the lineup tonight.

And not just saying that for the fact that we had that explosive start.

Really impressive stuff from Flexen all game. Crazy what some early run support can do for a guy. Not that he needed all of it, but it allows him to be aggressive and get some quick outs, keeping our nightmare bullpen where it belongs.

The twins announcers are way better than our crew. One of them was in the George Brett pine tar game playing for the yankees and he said that Billy Martin really didn't care if there was pine tar on the bat, he was just trying to use the rule to get a 2 run home run taken away.

Happy for him

I can only imagine the satisfying feeling that a pro ball player has when he puts the Seattle Mariners lackluster baseball organization in his rear view mirror and is picked up by a team that is a legit contender. Chris Taylor is probably still doing cartwheels everytime he enters Dodger stadium and he was traded 5-6 years ago I think.

They are all multi millionaires. Most of the 5yr+ veterans have more money than they will likely ever spend in their lifetimes. What they truly covet is the excitement of that playoff atmosphere and playing centerstage in October vying for that shot at making it to the World Series.

Observation:

The Mariners are far more competitive when they are playing one of the few teams in the AL that is actually worse than them.
10 runs is a worthy and notable offensive statline ( equally impressive is a combined shutout by the pitching staff )

Sadly the true numbers tell a different tale. Our -51 run differential is somehow skewed into a team that is just a single game under .500. Nearly always a team near .500 will have a run differential alot smaller and nearer to an even 0 - as in maybe -5 to -15. Our record somehow masks how bad we truly are. Kinda how a couple years ago we won an ungodly high % of 1 run games.

One glance at any given nites lineup tells you what kind of state your team is in. When its your local team and you are seeing names penciled into the starting lineup you have to research to know who they are, is your 1st clue something is amiss.

2nd clue is when nearly 1/2 your lineup is batting below the Mendoza line ( happens nearly every game with the Mariners )

3rd clue is seeing who is batting cleanup ( who your team leans on for its greatest run producing opportunities )
The Mariners clean up hitter? Kyle Seager batting .212 with an OPS just a hair over .700 (.705) and he strikes out at a ratio of 1 K per every 3.5 at bats.

Not trying to steal the thunder of a 10-0 win .... but here is what the next 6 weeks of baseball for the Ms look like:

4 games with TB Rays - #1 power ranking team in all of MLB
3 road games with CWS - division leader and their run diff is league best +106 right now
3 games with the NYY
4 games with OAK - division leader
3 games with HOU - 3 times greater run diff than division leading OAK ( +89 HOU to +26 for OAK ) how is that possible?

then the 1st week of August is 7 straight games / east coast road trip with TB Rays and NYY.

How many games under .500 are the Mariners on Aug 9th you think ?

Flexen's stuff was good last night but honestly the main takeaway from last night is the Twins arent a good team and Happ isnt a good pitcher right now. Also there were a ton of fluke hits although the Mariners have been due for that kind of luck.

But yeah I take it with a grain of salt although I don't think I've seen this kind of easy win in a while so that's fun.

Also Crawford emerging is making me very happy

I think a lot to this and something Kelenic should embrace though I do like his intensity.

I still think there is more to his story. Jerry doesn’t have any other options at the moment. I think there is a difference between having fun and having fun at the expense of guy who passed you over.

Sheffield’s rapid regression the last month is extremely concerning

He's just soft pitching batting practice and why is he still in the damn game?

Agreed, he’s horrible right now. Easily one of the most disappointing players on the roster this year. He’s taken a huge step backwards... I have no idea why he’s still in the game because our bullpen is fresh....

Never thought much of him so I am not shocked. The bad part, and I was literally thinking this before the game, was his ERA was so high and it is an extreme pitching season. Go figure.

Mariners marketing sure likes to call Marco an ace, but I don't think any of us here ever thought of him as one.
