Another golden nugget from ESPN's QBR:

The 4th best game by a QB this year is also held by Colin Kaepernick.

His stat line?

13 for 21 (61.9% comp percentage) for 199 yards 0 touchdowns 0 INTs.

Here's a prime example of QBR not making any sense at all

Week 5 against Houston Colin Kaepernick was absolutely terrible all game. He was 5-14 for 59 yds heading into the 4th quarter. The game was 24-3 and already well in hand. Then Kaepernick throws a meangingless td to Vernon Davis and all of a sudden his qbr is now 73.

I can understand the QB Rating being 89 because QB Rating all it sees are straight forward numbers. QBR we were led to believe that it takes into account when the TD is thrown and what the TD means and it weighs out how much you get on your QBR. Kaepernick throws a 61 yd td on a blown coverage blitz and QBR still recognizes it as meaningful and boosts his QBR to 73 for the game.

Whereas Russell week 1 in a game where he passed for 320 yds completing 75 % of his passes and throwing the game winning touchdown in the fourth quarter...and he gets a 70 QBR

What about the Arizona game where Russell was on fire from beginning to end. 235 yds with 3 tds on 62 % completion...and he gets a 58 QBR

27-42 for 462 yds (64.3 completion %) 7 tds 0 ints

vs

13-21 for 199 yds (61.9 completion %) 0 tds 0 ints

Guess which stat line had the higher QBR! The first one? Peyton Mannings record breaking 7 td game? Nope. Colin Kaepernick's 199 yds vs the Titans.

Since ESPN came out with it I never really bother to try to understand the "stat." I think it's adjusted heavily in favor of the type of defense the QB is playing against?

The two defenses Wilson faced in which he have poor QBR was against the Panthers and Cardinals. A QBR of 58 against the Cardinals is a joke because Wilson did extremely well that game. It showed in his passer rating of 122. In week 1 it was a 115 passer rating!

In the game against the Rams, a 20.8 QBR despite a 117 passer.

The more I look into it, QBR is retardedly stupid.

The only thing to like about Total QBR is that it at least goes from 0-100. Can someone explain to me how 158.3 became the designated number for the "perfect" passer rating and how any rating that includes incomplete passes can be considered "perfect" in the first place?

Well, in the formula, the highest rating you can receive for INT% in 2.375, so they limited all other categories to a rating of 2.375 (completion %, ypa & TD%). When limiting each category to 2.375, the formula comes back with a maximum of 158.3.

158.3 doesn't mean perfect, just maximum. If unlimited, the qb rating formula would have a maximum rating of 831.3.

Anytime I see someone refer to a 158.3 rating, they refer to it as "perfect". Based on what you've laid out here, they shouldn't.
