If needing a reason to think this is the worst stat ever thought of in any sport, just take a look at Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick.

In just about every measure this season, Wilson has had the better year. He has more completions on fewer attempts, more yards, more TDs, the same INTs, a passer rating 16 points higher, and more rushing yards. Yet, the QBR for Wilson is 64.91 while Kaep is at a 67.92.

I think most of us already knew it was a pretty irrelevant stat.

QBR was created for guys who throw 50 times a game with 3+ TDs a game and 4000+ yards a season.

Last 5 games, Russell 87 comp 126 att 1232 yds 9 tds 2 ints kap 85 comp 141 att 1015 yds 9 tds 2 int.

they are both looking pretty similar the last 5 games until you look at the defenses they have faced the last 5 games, Kap has faced the #1, 5, 13, 20 and 21st ranked defenses while Russell has faced the #3, 5, 10 29 and 31st. and we can also throw in that Kap beat the number one defense and Russell lost to the number 3!!!!!

ESPN should just do us all a favor and get rid of this total QBR bs. It's useless and irrelevant.

It changes too much to be any good for me when looking at things.

Yearly numbers tell more imo,or half way through the season but you also have to look at who they play for instance, the NFCWest has good D's all around.

Except cherry picking stats is going to make things look a lot better. Are you trying to tell us that the QBR rating between Kaep and Wilson is the way it is because of the last 5 games and ignored the first 7?

Overall, Wilson has been the more consistent QB all year long. The QBR rating does not do him justice. But of course, it'll make a guy like Kaep look like he's the same as Russell Wilson. I'm not taking anything away from Kaep as he is a good QB, but Wilson has been the better QB this year.

Go on cherry pick other stats for us to show that both are similar.

I agree the QBR is dumb, but I was looking back at the last 5 games, esp the last 3 since kap now has manningham an crabtree back, specifically crabtree, kap and the 49ers offense has started looking better since crab came back. Wilson has had the same wr that he had last year almost all year, until sid went down. there have been games were both qbs have looked young and inexperienced, and there have been a couple games that I have seen where Wilson has thrown the ball up and tate or kearse or Baldwin have made some amazing catches that make russells stats look better, I know you guys are high on Russell and some of you think he is insanely better than kap, I agree that right now Russell has had the better year, but he as alsa had the benefit of having better wr for most of the year, now that crab is back kap is starting to look better!!!!

Russell Wilson has thrown for 50TDs his first two season and not a lot of turnovers. His WR group isn't anything to write home about. All while playing on a team that runs the ball as much as anyone. That's pretty amazing.

Give him his due.

wilson 105 qb rating

kap 88.8

not that 88.8 is bad its not, but 105 is much better

Under 80 is bad
that would be
Keenum
Ponder
Manual
Flacco
Henne
Weeden
Eli
Geno
Pryor

star studded under 80

I agree. Wilson makes his receivers better.

He hasnt had someone with the talent of vd or even crabs. Until crabs scored à td last week, vd and boldin were the only ones to have scored à receiving td all year. Kids got à rocket and if his star réceivers are one on one or beat coverage he can get the ball to him. But Wilson spreads it around to everyone and can throw them open if he needs to. And unlike Kap his eyes are always scanning downfield.

Total QBR is only a tool to help gauge a QB and should be used in conjunction with other tools to give you a bigger picture. Don't base your grading only on one metric or like the saying goes don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Total QBR is still a work in progress and is the only stat that carries weight on sacks that could have been avoided by the QB throwing away the ball. Josh McCown leads the league in total QBR but no one is saying he is even close to the best QB now are they?

Don't put so much weight on a QBR rating people. Also the normal QB rating is just as bad in many cases.

Not at all, the passer rating system is purely statistical, where the total QBR rating is more subjective, deciding which plays mean more than others and assigning a numerical value to a QBs overall decision making. It was touted as the stat that would show a QBs overall success at the position. At best, its a miserable failure.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but this is what tells me QBR is a joke.

If you go to all-time best games (Since 2006), according to ESPN, Kaepernick's performance against the Jaguars this year on October 27th earned him a QBR of 99.8. Which gives him the 4th best game since 2006.

His stat line?

10 for 16 (62% completion percentage) for 164 yards and 1 touchdown.

Ladies and gentlemen, according to ESPN that is the 4th best game by a quarterback since 2006! And according to ESPN that is the best game a QB has had all year this year!

Are you kidding me...?
