BOSTON (CBS) — Tom Brady has never played an NFL game in the home stadium of his hometown San Francisco Fourty Niners new home in Santa Clara, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is now guaranteed to be on the field on the night of the big game — no matter what.

That’s because Brady has been invited to participate in the NFL’s year-long celebration of past Super Bowl champions. Brady shared on his Facebook page a letter written to him by commissioner Roger Goodell, which included an invitation to be honored on the field prior to Super Bowl 50.

“Your performance in Super Bowls XXXVI, XXXVIII, XLIX is an enduring legacy of a great performance on the biggest stage in sports,” Goodell wrote. “We will recognize the MVPs throughout Super Bowl week, including at our nationally televised NFL Honors show. As our guest in San Francisco on Super Bowl Sunday, all MVPs will participate in an on-field ceremony that will air on CBS prior to kickoff.”

Considering he’ll have a chance to share the stage with Joe Montana in San Francisco as the only three-time Super Bowl MVPs in history, it’s quite the special invite for Brady. However, Brady would prefer to be in California for business, not for pleasure.

“What an honor,” Brady wrote on Facebook. “Hope I have my helmet on for the on-field ceremony in SF! #teameffort“

Super Tom Bowl 50 will be the first without roman numerals, because superbowl L sounds funny...and one participating team will get a superbowl L.
