Used to recruit talent... now he's apparently looking for players who will stick around. Always a recipe for success :tsk:
Who would you fire Matta for? Man I wanted Shaka Smart so bad. Granted his Havoc defense seems to wear out players a lot.

Honestly, no one. But we're fading into mediocrity with no end in sight. Matta just needs to snap out of it and start going after the blue chippers again.

This team is fecal. Only redeeming player is DJ Williams. Bunch of trash everywhere else. Atleast if they tank we can fire Beilien. I hope MSU and Indiana blows this team's back completely the fuck out. I'm talking 45+ points each. Sick of this shit. I'm looking at my most hated Basketball rival in Indiana get a ton of studs like Thomas Bryant and OG and we have this mess here. Soft ass players and has beens like Irvin. What a goddamn joke.

And let's be honest if you are a B1G basketball fan, you have to hate Indiana the most. Crean is a jackass.

Watching Zak Irvin play is like watching a dog take a massive diarrhea shit. Fucking brutal.

We've got some talent coming in next year, don't we? Losing Loving and letting some other talent come up will help.

This team escapes with a mediocre offensive performance. They might lose by 40 to UCLA this weekend.

You have MSU with more talent, then you have Central Michigan rolling with Keane. Oakland University is rolling as well. This is one of the most talent laden areas in terms of basketball in the country and you have all three programs getting better DPS, Flint and Saginaw talent then Michigan. Unacceptable.

They managed to not lose to Texas. When the weekend comes we can discuss the Bruins.

Not really. At least compared to what Matta has brought in in the past. You have a top 100 player and then a guy who was committed at one point to Miami(Oh). So far it's a two man class, I don't know how many more guys Ohio State can sign, but if it stays at two, it'll be the worst recruiting class under Matta.

Brutal loss for the Buckeyes, it's going to be tough to recover, honestly, if they want to make the tournament. That will stick out big time if they're on the bubble come March. That loss dropped them from 17 all the way down to 83 in the RPI. It's not all too surprising though, they've been flirting with losing to bad teams most the season.

Ugh...just looked at recruiting rankings. 8th in the B1G in 2016 and 10th in 2017.

Yeah, I don't really understand why his recruiting has slipped this far. He had great 2014(w/Russell) and 2015 classes, but there's only one guy left from the 2015 class, and he didn't reload the 2016 class at all, and now 2017 looks to be down.

I think he's also suffered from losing guys unexpectedly early to the NBA, and it's just had a cumulative effect on the program. I thought OSU would bounce back a little this year, but so far they haven't. Which is a little surprising since they have an upperclassman laden roster.

It's time for Matta to go, sadly.

He fails to recruit elite talent anymore and has failed at developing the players he does get.

This is the 2nd year in a row they have lost at home to a bad OOC team (they lost to Texas Arlington and Louisiana Tech last year)

And it's looking like another year not making the big dance unless something significantly changes. This team has the same major problems as last years team. Way too many awful turnovers, awful passing, inability to consistently create offense especially in pressure situations. It's not like they have zero talent, it has to be the coaching at this point.

It's unrealistic to expect every team to be like the 2006-2007 team but things have turned significantly downhill since the 13-14 season, recruiting and play on the floor. They are currently sulking in mediocrity.

Good win for Iowa over Iowa St. If this team decides to play defense they may be pretty good come league play

I was definitely surprised they beat Iowa State. I tend to think this result means ISU isn't very good and may be overrated. I think Iowa is going to have to at least get to 12 wins in B1G play to make the tournament, that's asking an awful lot IMO.

Yeah the loss to Omaha hurts. I'm actually quite pleased with the freshmen on this team. Iowa has some decent classes coming in too. By 2018 this team will be really good. This year they can score enough to win games so it really just comes down to commitment on defense. The B10 schedule this year is much easier than last year so 12 isn't impossible if they get consistent play on the D end. Pernsil, Moss, Bohannon and Cook are all pretty damn good.

They're projected to go 6-12, so that would be quite a leap to double what they are projected to do. And even 12-6 might not be enough. That would be quite the turnaround if they managed even double digit wins in conference.
