So I already have him penciled in as the next madison Bumgarner. Not really but I am impressed with his 3 starts considering he was below average in the minors I thought he was going to be in for the ride of his life when he got called up to play. Whats everyones opinion?

I liked th trade with Tampa for him because I followed him a bit when KC had him in the minors since I live about 5 minutes from their spring training stadium where they also play a lot of their rookie players in rookie ball and fall ball. I don't think he will ever be a top 2 rotation player, but a solid #4 or #5 and that is just fine with me since Ramirez drove me freaking crazy all the time.

He's made it to the majors and now he just has to bust ass and keep himself there, so far so good! Maybe he can be one of the very few positive things that happens to the team this year.

I just wish the FO could find hitters the way they can find pitchers. Almost every year they find a pitcher on the scrap heap that puts up quality innings. The great thing about Montgomery is the team control he has left.

What's not to like with the kid... We needed someone to step and step in and that is exactly what he has done... He's exceeded everyones expectations imo...

Happ is the one that concerns me...

Not worried about Happ at all. He's been exactly what I thought he would be: dominant in pitcher's parks (8 starts/2.30 ERA) and ineffective in hitter's parks (4 starts/7.94 ERA).

In 9 of 12 starts he has allowed 3 earned runs or less.
In 8 of 12 starts he has allowed 2 earned runs or less.

Team records for starting pitchers:
Felix 10-3
Happ 6-6
Paxton 4-6
Walker 4-8
Elias 3-6
Montgomery 1-2
Iwakuma 0-3

Seems like there is some potential in him, regardless of how his finishes the season I can't believe Jack got a guy who can contribute for Ramirez.

... and he can actually pitch for more than 6 innings too, something Ramirez couldn't do for the life of him...

I don't see him keeping up his strong performances in pitcher's park... He's been getting hit hard the past 3 or 4 starts while having to pitch out of trouble more often than he has thru the first half of his starts this year...

Agree. His numbers will level off at some point kind f like how Elias has. This Elias is the one I remember from last year, but he did give us a few good starts before going the way of where most M's go...south.

Okay this is funny as hell and tells us where we are as an organization:

Ryan Divish ‏@RyanDivish 54m54 minutes ago

McClendon said he didn't have the answer as to whether Montgomery would remain in the rotation when Kuma returns. But Montgomery will stay

-------------------

You mean the kid that just threw back-to-back shutouts? Why would he stay in rotation? I mean you trying to do something stupid like win?

I will say this in regards to Montgomery, I think he has been fantastic since being called up. He has pitched very well and I am extremely impressed with his last 2 performances. Let me preface what I am about to say with I am not trying to take away from what he has done so far but I am not getting overly excited yet. Sometimes you can see this with pitchers who haven't been in the majors that long and once they get 10-15 starts hitters get a better game plan when they face those pitchers. Its also important to remind ourselves that his "stuff" really isn't going to blow you away, sometimes good pitchers can make that work and I hope that is the case with Montgomery.

He has done great so far and that is exciting see. Regardless the most important thing is he is keeping teams from crossing the plate and giving the Mariners excellent chances to win. Its good to see. I hope he keeps it up.

I don't how long this will continue for him either, but why the hell would you pull him from rotation if he hasn't lost it yet? SMH

I'm not saying you should. I would start him until the wheels come off and who knows maybe the wheels never come off and you got a solid starter.

No one knows about Montgomery but what the heck has Kuma done in 10 months to justify him bumping him right now? Since August he has either pitched shitty of been hurt.
