Chad Wheeler Reportedly Transported to Hospital After Altercation with Police

USC Trojans junior offensive lineman Chad Wheeler reportedly had to be taken to a hospital following an altercation with Los Angeles police officers at an apartment Saturday.

According to NBC News, the incident occurred Saturday morning:

Los Angeles officers responded to a man at around 8:45 a.m. PT (11:45 a.m. ET) who was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol, punching walls and windows, and injuring his hands inside an apartment in South Los Angeles near the USC campus, said the law enforcement sources close to the investigation.

Sources told Blankstein that police officers "fired beanbag rounds at him after he got into an altercation with them" but did not disclose the details of what led to the disturbance.

Blankstein added that Wheeler was not arrested but is being held under private protective custody at the hospital "for psychiatric evaluation."

USC head coach Clay Helton told reporters at the team's practice in preparation for the Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl matchup with Wisconsin that Wheeler was absent while dealing with a "personal issue".

Wheeler is a three-year starter at USC, though he missed the final five games in 2014 after suffering a torn ACL in a matchup against Utah and missed this season's contest against Utah after suffering a concussion.

Pretty sad. I have a feeling he's been dealing with a few things all year. He had many games where he had multiple inexcusable penalties. I forget the game but you could hear Helton yell at him saying you're killing us Out there. I think he might have played his last game of football. Hopefully he gets his life on track. I hear his toddler was in the apartment when he was punching the walls.

At 40 years young, BYU got their "lifer coach" in Kalani Sataki...cost the Beavers 375K for each win he had as a Beaver and who knows what carnage with recruiting.

I doubt that comes as a shock. That zona D is just terrible and there probably isn't any more that playing his last season would have done to raise his stock because of it. He'd simply be risking injury for likely no gain.

3rd round? I'm sure his people are telling him he's more likely a second rounder.

According to Scooby, as reported by AZCentral, his people are telling him second or third round.

His new BFF is agent Drew RAThouse. Let the pimping begin.

As for Zona, that defense was world class bad without Wright so RichRod better start addressing the glaring issues with that D going forward. He turned down the SC gig, so he likes the Zona lifestyle, but he better start putting the same effort into the D and he does the O.

And if he doesn't what will you do?

Snow is quickly burying the roads here. We are at the edge of the mr rainer foothills so we always end up with more than those down in the valley.

Doubt it's going to stay though. Should melt pretty quickly.

Wait!! What?!? How is it possible that Stanford has won 3 of the last 4 PAC championships? According to Ducks fans, they own the PAC. :noidea:

The Ducks own the biggest wardrobe in the Pac. That's what they meant.
