UCLA/Cal prob SHOULD be but...:noidea: train wrecks, both.

I'd agree on UCLA.

They have the name recognition and USC would be a spring board for them.

In the history of the AP rankings (1936) only 27 teams have ever won a NC.
25 of them are current P5 schools. The only other two are Army in '44 & '45
and BYU is '84.

It's pretty much a closed club.

18 different schools won at least one in the first 40 years of the AP.

Only 9 new teams have managed to enter that list in the last 41 years

Washington is going to pump Stanford this year like a choir boy at the Vatican.

Maybe so, but I don't see Stanford reverting back to the pre Harbaugh days anytime soon, and I think they're a very well coached program that could win a natty at some point down the line under the right circumstances.

I doubt that any team that has never won a NC will ever win one. I just don't see any school other than traditional blue bloods being able to recruit long enough to a level needed to assemble the depth to accomplish such. The pool of potential NCs is pretty much decided on a series of four consecutive signing dates. Until a non blue blood can crack that exclusive club on a regular basis, not much of a chance.

Notre Dame has to be up there. They could bounce back at any time.

*cough1988cough*

And for those promoting Washington--they won a title in 1991, granted it was a split title.

If Louisville wasn't so mentally fragile, they can make a run this year.
Maybe TCU with Gary Petterson.
But if I had to choose one it would be VT. They're heading in the right direction with Justin Fuente and they have a good path to the ACC Title game being in the Coastal Division.

I must have missed the definition of modern. I was thinking more along the lines of the last 25 years or so.

Actually if we're going by since WW2 don't forget 1946, 47, 49, 66, 73 and 77.

Since the AP, add 1943.
