As the week progressed, the pundits were all but sure WVU, a #5 seed would fall to Buffalo, a #12 seed in the first round of the tournament. Although the Bulls of Buffalo played a good game, they failed to pull off the upset in Columbus. WV took control early in this game and led the entire game. Buffalo managed to tie the game at 62-62 with 2:44 left in the game but a Tarik Philips 3 pointer with .29 seconds left gave WV the lead and helped seal the win.

WV raced out to its biggest lead at 24-11 before the Bulls settled in and kept the game close. Buffalo shoots 44% from the field and makes 6 3's in the game. WV had a slight rebounding advantage at 31-30 while forcing the Bulls into 17 TO's. Devin Williams leads the Mountaineers with 17 points on 5-6 shooting and 7-9 from the foul line. Staton returned to the line up with 15 points and 7 assists while Miles. Jr. logs 10 points. Tarik Phillips came off the bench to score 9 points.

So, this was a good start and a good test for WV to NCAA basketball tournament. The win was certainly not pretty as WV missed many easy shots and made some bad turnovers to help keep Buffalo in the game. Defense and hustle can carry you only so far because eventually too many dumb decisions will beat you. WV had their fair share of those decisions today. Next for WV it will be the winner of Valpo and Maryland. Have a great weekend Mountaineers fans wherever your country road has taken you!

WVU played a little too sloppy at times. Between the under 12 and under 8 minute media timeout periods, they scored but 2 points. Those were the result of making 1 of 2 FT's both times they went to the line. More stupid fouls by Holton and Adrian nearly cost them the game. Huggy had to go zone, and it was about as effective as the zone when they played BU in the Big 12 Tourney.

My stomach felt pretty sick at the point when Buffalo tied the game. But, the beers will go down easy tonight.

Can't wait to see the Twerps!
