Since ya'll are the only ACC brethren I have here, I thought I'd share this with you. It's an interesting piece from a Clemson site I read religiously: "Shakin' The Southland." It's an SB nation site and a good one. Just wanted to get ya'lls take on it.

Very interesting; Swofford has to go at the very least. Time for the teams that want to succeed in football to stick their noses in and get these whine and cheese assholes out of power.

I like the premise behind the grouping. As he stated, the North Carolina schools have for too long ran things and it is time for a balance of power.

With Tobacco Road's strangle hold on the ACC, you'd think this sort of arrangement between football schools would've already taken shape by now. We're in trouble if Maryland gets out of paying a healthy exit fee, as FSU, VT, and GT will likely bolt and we'll be stuck.

SB nation really changed up their blog format it seems. I think it's a nice idea, but I worry about things like scheduling. With the move to superconferences it will be even harder to get quality OOC games.

Damn, 286 views and only a handful of post? Maybe it wasn't as interesting as I thought.

I found it interesting. It's just a pretty long read. Might scare people off.

I thought the same thing when I opened it, but once I started reading, I was hooked. It was a well written piece. But I agree a long read.

I think VT and Hokie fans are more interested in getting out of the ACC than building partnerships and putting in the time to beat back Tobacco Road (less work, more money). Plus, with all of the new basketball schools coming in, a group of 5 won't hold much sway.

The idea of 1)basically becoming the big12 east or 2)forming a new conference, are interesting ideas. I realize they are both (very) long shots but interesting none the less.

If we (vt) end up in the big12 i'd like the idea of going in with a group of other schools vs solo or with only one other school. I think the big12 is at least 3rd on everyone's wish list though.

It's very interesting, and if you could get a full time commitment from ND and Pitt and their money and power, I would be all for it.

As far as the views/posts ratios, a lot of people Kirk this board for info and casual reading. Look through the numbers on the threads compared to other team boards. It is par for the course.

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago .. at least a Big12 east division. I think that it would work great if:

1. Kansas left for the B1G
2. Leaves 8 in the Big12 west + WVU
3. Pick up the other 7 from the East Coast

Good points made in the article. The Atlantic Coast is where the population is, will be, and where the money will be. But the Big12 seems to be pretty damned picky as to who they want (The Horns won't let the Big12 product be watered down at all nor cut themselves out of any money). It would be a huge powerplay and TOTAL no-brainer if you ask me if they could get who they wanted:

FSU
Clemson
GT
NC State
VT
Louisville/Cincinnati/Pitt (2 out of 3)

That would make for a very nice division

I'd rather stay in the ACC, and then see the "atlantic 5" become competitive teams again. If the ACC can start winning OOC games, then they will get some respect. The have the 'brand name' programs (FSU, Clemson, Miami, and as of recently VT), they have the TV markets, they just don't have national respect (rightfully so).

If the ACC can win bowl games, OOC games, and produce 8-9 teams above .500 (three-four of whom are 10 win teams) they will get plenty of respect, and hopefully, eventually, a new, more lucrative TV deal, thus a stable conference.

Of course, we all know this would never happen.

I agree. But we need FSU, Clemson, Miami and VT to win more "big" games.

I'm not sure FSU beating Northern Illinois is going to do it. And I don't even want to talk about the possibility of them losing.

I'm hoping the Hokies show up with an offense and beat Rutgers, though.

Finally decided to read this article. The main thing it did for me was increase my hatred towards Swofford.
