Even if he does develop as a perimeter threat, he doesn't really provide anything else and Randle is the future for the Lakers at that position.

4 year collegiate player with two ~34% 3 pt shooting pro seasons, he's most likely on his last chance in LA.
You need depth in the NBA. The last few seasons should have taught Laker fans that.

No one is saying that he's going to replace Randle as the starter and/or future of the position. But you need backups. The Lakers are in a position where they can be a little more patient with him than they would be if they were contenders.

He potentially brings something that Randle and Bass do not with his 3 point shooting. It doesn't really matter that he doesn't bring the defense and rebounding that they do because that wouldn't be his role. He can also be used some at SF for the same reason if necessary.

I agree though, if he doesn't take a solid step forward this season, he is likely gone.

You don't need 5 PFs (Randle, Bass, Black, Kelly, Nance).

I think the Nance pick pretty much sealed Kelly's fate. If there had been a taker via trade, he would already be gone.

Black is best suited to playing as a backup center, his lack of mobility hurts him if he plays PF. And I could see Nance seeing time in the development league.

Well, then there is no need for Upshaw behind Hibbert, Black, and Sacre. One way or another, Kelly and/or Sacre are clogging the roster.

You always need a 3rd string C. Sacre's job is most likely on the line with them picking up Upshaw.....who should have been drafted.

First game against the Wolves. A win against them could be a HUGE confidence boost!
