Weren't the Panthers #1 last year?

"Atlanta finished ahead of the New England Patriots (2), Tennessee Titans (3), Green Bay Packers (4) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (5) on the list."

roster rankings mean shit
They should mean a lot if the rankings systems used are actually accurate.

I just have no idea how someone could project 2017 based on 2016 with any accuracy in a sport where QBs matter so much, injuries matter so much and the 9th, 10th and 11th best player on a defense can totally be exposed even if the other 8 are pretty darn good.

I dont really see a feasible way ( aside from injury ) that Atlanta misses the playoffs. At year end they were substantially better than any other NFC team and they got better in the off-season . A look at the schedule points at maybe 7 games Atlanta could conceivably lose . Realistically they'd have to lose all those games to miss the playoffs . Just not gonna happen .

Ryan has missed the postseason about as much as he has made it, so we never know which Matt Ryan will show up

And who knows if Dan Quinn can ever recover from that shitshow

Super Bowl hangover is real so that is a concern but frankly Atlanta is just vastly more talented than most teams on the schedule so it's unlikely to affect them too much especially since the schedule is light early . They should be 4-2 or 5-1 even if they aren't firing on all cylinders early

I'd imagine they probably have one of the worst super bowl hangovers, too. The way they lost would just tick me off if I was on that team.

I'm sure. I'm actually happy we don't open with NE. An opener with the Bears is perfect

Opening at New England certainly isnt easy. Chiefs first 10 games according to 2016 football outsiders rankings: @1, 4, @20, 8, @29, 5, @11, 14, @2, @10. So 7 of the top 11 teams from 2016. If the Chiefs make it past that then I think they are playoff bound for sure but its not hard seeing them around 5-5 after that stretch and needing to pretty much win out.

Last year is last year, though. Its really difficult to expect what is and what isnt going to carry over.

Giants just need to get homefield

Last time Atlanta visited us in the postseason, they scored 2 points

Thank you

I do.....Matt Ryan. It took not just his best year...but a historically-all time NFL year from him just to get to 11-5. If he reverts back to the same pretty good player as he's been for the first 8 years of his career....I can see a 7-9 season.

We'll see how they respond from an all time stupid in the Super Bowl.

That's fair . I think the talent around him contributed big time to his success though so while it's reasonable to assume he falls back some it's doubtful it will be substantial and it's reasonable to assume the D will be much better as well with the guys they added and the fact they improved a lot over the course of the year last year

It's going to be a dog fight in the NFC South this year but I can see the Falcons winning the division again next yr.
