I'm hoping for a 63-0 score with Manning throwing 9 TDs all over big mouth Sherman. Probably a more realistic score will be:

Denver 26
Seattle 17

The seahawks being who they are and the coach they have. I look for them to try and take Manning out on every play. ala New Orleans style of a few years ago. Am I talking dirty play? Yes I am. Manning is one bone crunching hit from the bench. And they know it. Now I know that is the job of the defense too try and get the QB but I believe it will be noticeable and start early. Having said that everything being equal playing straight up. Denver wins.

Defense wins championships. The weather will be a factor in Denver's passing attack and Seattle has the better run game.

My thoughts exactly. Slightly more points but same result.

Hmm...

Peyton will probably get 2 TDs in the air, 1 pick 6, 1 costly INT and 1 irrelevant INT
Wilson will probably pass for a TD and run for a TD. 1 silly fumble, get sacked 3 times and make 2 huge throws for 30+ yards each.

I'm going 30-20 Seattle. Rooting for 60-0 Denver

Just curious but what do the older posters think of Peyton in terms of 'Greatest of All Time' QBs? Imo, he wins this Super Bowl against one of the best pass defenses Ive ever seen and he closes the door on the conversation but there are some older guys (Pre Montana) that I haven't seen play. What do you guys think of Peyton's legacy?

The mantra of DEF wins championships more or less says DEN has no DEF.

In it's simplest form...I look at the game OFC vs DEF...no question SEA's DEF is better than DEN's DEF, but are they better than DEN's OFC...idk, that's the $64,000 question.

I do think DEN's DEF is better than SEA's OFC and that why I give the edge to DEN 24-17 or 27-20.

Early 70s is as far as I go back in terms of seeing players...Unitas was still playing but he was no longer a star.

GOAT is really tough for me in football because it is the ultimate team sport. Each had a trait that imo was unsurpassed.

Passing...Marino was the best passer of the ball I've seen, power, accuracy, finesse...they were just never a complete enough team. Namath and Farve round out this group.

Composure...Montana was simply the best in crunch time at making plays, Brady would be next here.

Student...Manning without question has the best grasp of the complete game...he knows your DEF and he knows what play will defeat it...pre-snap.

To your point, with a win...Marino doesn't have any rings so I think you really focus on Manning, Montana, and Brady for GOAT...I would still lean towards Montana because he never lost a SB, but imo there's no wrong answer.

I don't think Manning is the greatest of all time, but he definitely would be in the top 10. If I was starting a team and had to pick a QB in his prime I'd have to go with Montana. He didn't have the greatest arm, and he wasn't the most mobile. But for all the intangibles and coolness under pressure, and ability to just win there was nobody better. I hated him when he played for SF. I always dreaded the game when they played the Rams. I remember the game in 1989 when the Eagles mauled him for most of the game and the 9ers trailed 21-10 in the 4th quarter. But in the 4th quarter alone Joe Montana completed 11 of 12 passes for 227 yards and four touchdowns, all in 13 minutes 32 seconds. For the game he was 25 of 34 for 428 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. SF won 38-28.

I also remember the playoff game when he played for KC against Houston in 1994. He brought KC back to win 28-20 after Houston had sacked him like 10 times and he had that huge bursa sack hanging from his throwing arm.

Like I said, didn't like him when he played against the Rams, but in retrospect I can now objectively admire his accomplishments and believe he was the greatest QB ever.

Since teams win championships, not QBs, I put Marino at the top. He's the best passer I have ever seen, and set the 5000 yard mark back before all the more recent rule changes have made the league pass-happy. He never had a running game, and not much of a defense either, yet he led that team to the super bowl in his rookie year.

If you put Montana on the Dolphins, does he win with that team? Put Marino on the Niners however, and I think Dan gets rings.

It's an interesting point Shopson. I would agree with most of what you said. As a matter of fact Marino would have been my second choice, even though I never liked the Dolphins. I also would say that Marino was the best pure passer I've ever seen as well. If he had better teams when he played I'd say that he would have won a couple SBs. I just see Marino as a pure passer though, whereas Montana had absolutely no flaws in his game. If Marino was a butcher cutting up defenses, Montana was a surgeon, perhaps slicing up defenses in smaller pieces...

I think Id agree with a lot of this. Marino is the best pure passer Ive seen. Moon for me would be second. Manning is the smartest QB in terms of football IQ. Maybe the smartest player in terms of football IQ. I actually think Warner had the best release I've ever seen and some of the best accuracy. Big Ben is the most exciting QB Ive seen. Aaron Rodgers is the best overall in terms of mobility, accuracy, IQ and arm strength.

I would have to place my vote for Marino. It always seemed funny people talk about the rings being the thing. But seems to me there is another QB with as many rings as Montana but nobody ever brings him up.

I'm assuming you're alluding to Bradshaw Ozark. He does indeed have 4 rings, but I don't think he was the biggest reason Pittsburgh won those SBs. The general consensus is that the Steelers had the greatest defense over a 6 year span (74-79) in NFL history, and that was the primary reason they were so dominant. Taking nothing away from Bradshaw, he was one of the best in his time. But he was also rather erratic, throwing almost as many INTs as TDs.

General consensus is how people remember it and the funny thing about memory is that its flawed.
Here's how the Steelers ranked in yards those years
Offense/Defense:
'74: 8/1
'75: 7/4
'76: 9/1
'77: 4/7
'78: 8/3
'79: 1/2

And total points:
Offense/Defense:
'74: 6/2
'75: 5/2
'76: 5/1
'77: 7/17
'78: 5/1
'79: 1/5

That Steeler offense was riding no coattails. They didn't have a dominant defense, they had a dominant football team. It wasn't just the run game either because those last 3 years they ranked as high or higher in passing offense than rushing offense.
