Thinking of the records of those 4 teams, I'd have to say SMU would have the best SOS with 2 ranked teams. Cincy and Houston.
But SMU hasn't played either yet, have they? Cinci is going to beat SMU, of that I'm pretty sure.

Wait? Some metric is trying to claim UMn has been tOSU's toughest opponent so far? Bet the Oregon fans hate seeing that, lol. Even I can't support that, I'd love to, but I can't.

S&P+ is not high on the PAC-12 conference as a whole. Hell, going by SRS (Simple Rating System from Sports-Reference), there's only one team in the top 20 (Arizona State at 20th) and two more in the top 30 (Utah and Oregon are 29th and 30th).

If Wake and Cinci both go undefeated I would like Wake to make it and Cinci get left out. At least be consistent.

That's likely what would end up happening. Something like....

1. Georgia
2. Oklahoma
3. Ohio St
4. Wake Forest
5. Cinci

Well Wake Forest has to beat NCSU, who is currently ranked, Clemson, who won't be an easy out, and then Pitt in the CCG, all three wins would give them a bump in the rankings, Cincinnati has no games left really other than SMU where they can improve they're resume. Question is, can Wake make up the difference and jump them in the minds of the voters?

And for the above to happen, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State all have to win out. If Oklahoma loses and Ohio State loses and neither Michigan or Michigan State win out, both Wake and Cincinnati could get in?

There might be one or two others, like Oregon, with one loss that could win out and stay ahead of wake, as well? Makes for an interesting season.

Absolutely zero chance that an 11-1 non-conference champ Michigan goes in above an undefeated P5 conference champ. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

This is all prognostication until we see the playoff rankings on Tuesday. They certainly will not mirror the AP.

still have to say resume has to matter and strength of schedule.

just fyi, it's going to be a very bad look if WF gets in at 4 and then gets their doors blown off by GA or OSU like 50-3........

Michigan would have wins over probably ranked PSU/MSU & maybe getting votes Maryland/Wisconsin. Wake Forest would have wins over probably ranked Pitt and maybe getting votes NCSU. Only difference would be Michigan playing 3 ranked teams and losing to the highest ranked of them while Wake only plays one ranked team, and no where near as highly ranked as tOSU. I don't know that anyone can say with certainty that Michigan would never get in over Wake in those circumstances.

I can. I say with absolute unequivocal certainty that undefeated ACC champ Wake Forest would make the playoff over 1-loss non B1G champ Michigan. It's not even up for debate. There is literally zero chance of Michigan jumping them.

We don't know yet if Michigan has to jump them? Michigan could be ahead of Wake Forest in the first college football playoff rankings already? And with several big-time opponents ahead of them if they beat two out of the three, Wake Forest may not be able to jump them?

Bless your heart thinking anything resembling logic applies to the playoff selection committee.
