Not a good start for either side of the ball…

1st series for the offense went 3 & out… 2nd series got a 1st down but then Haley decided to run a WR quick screen on 3rd & 4 that resulted in an incompletion…

1st series for the defense they held them to a FG. Bortles is picking them apart for the most part. Went for it on a 4th & 1 on their 1st drive and got it. If it wasn't for a holding penalty I'm pretty sure they would have scored.

So much for momentum… Offense did little yet again. 1 measly 1st down

Overall...good effort by DEF... OFC did just enough late to salt it away...the playaction pass to Heath...where was that call last week Haley!! Penalties still a factor, but better on the dumb stuff except Moore's. J. Brown is a part of the rotation now...not going to see much of Bryant unless there's an injury.

Not the prettiest win I've ever seen, but I'll take it!

Good effort from the running game & improvement on defense. Now we just need to do away with the dumb dead-ball penalties.

Believe it or not, but the penalties improved from last week.

I think we're still missing Shazier so that's hurting us.

Our offense is not looking good at all.

If Shazier isn't a go next week then I would like to see V-Williams out there more. Spence looks like he is struggling out there (2-3 missed tackles, 1 botched coverage).

Good win this week. I gotta hand it to JAX, they came to play today. Regardless of what others might think, IMO JAX played very well defensively. Their D-line put constant pressure on Ben. Still scratched my head at some of the play calling, but they got the job done! I'll take it! Glad to see Tomlin putting his foot up players asses on the sideline.

Looking ahead... I think CLE is a much better team than we saw week 1. I highly doubt they will get away with any sloppy play so the boys better strap it up tight next week. I hope the defense continues to show improvement because they will need a good showing if they want to sweep the Brownies.

A win is a win, but it really makes you rethink 'we need to rely on the offense' thing everyone was discussing last week. O line is a still a work in progress on pass blocking, and the offense is not in any way precise, always make a mistake to kill a drive, Ben included.

Grading this one.

Starting up front...OL, B-...both Bell & Blount had holes to hit or cut back lanes unless Haley telegraphed the play via formation...no 100 yd rusher, but around the 4 yd per crack avg. The sacks on Ben...2 of them for certain were on Ben and he admitted as much.

Five games in, I think I just don't like Beech's style of pass blocking vs the bull rush...he gives ground for a few feet and then engages to force the defender beyond the QB...kind of using the defender's momentum against him...not bad if there is a pocket to step up into, but if the LG,C, are getting whipped (meaning no pocket to step up into) the QB is in trouble.

DL/front7...B-...best game vs the run this year imo...most of the time, ILBs were free to flow to the ball. Not many QB hits or pressures but they didn't come with 4 or more tat many times.

Back 4...B+...Allen's coverage still leaves me wanting more, but I'm learning a little more about his technique...on certain plays his job is to concede the underneath throw and make the tackle...when playing this coverage he's a little softer than Gay which make him less susceptible to the dbl move...he played ok yesterday I thought...the pick 6 helps this grade and that was a Lebeau special on the rookie...show early enough for the QB to recognize it and McCain knew he had the hot route.

Coaching...C, better, but still too many dead ball penalties and Moore's antics were dealt with immediately. Haley's redzone play calls were not the best...1st n goal and ending up with a FG was disappointing.

If I were giving out game balls it would got to Bell...the kid is proving to be a well balance RB...some growing concern over Archer...not many touches, but not seeing that burst I expected from preseason.

A most have said...a win is a win and with BAL @ CIN losing, it came at a great time.

CLE...yeah...I was switching back and forth on that one...the best I can say is they played for 60 mins...TN really gave that one away, much like we did last week.

Maybe not for the majority of the game, but when the offense was called upon during the final possession to move the ball and run out the clock, they stepped it up, unlike last week.

Fair point, still this was the worst defense in the league, that's really setting the bar low.
