Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi (2017)

Rogue One has a solid final act but I'm still not convinced that its all that great of a movie. Its just a movie that fits into the Star Wars universe better than any other movie that came after the originals.

Its totally disposable, though. Its nothing without its attachment to the original Star Wars movie which I really think explains the backlash to The Last Jedi.

I dunno. It was an almost perfect little war movie. Could pick that sucker up, give them different uniforms and people to fight against, and it'd be a serviceable money-maker. Cast Mark Wahlberg in it, and it makes 150 million without even trying hard.

No gay sex but there was implied human (Lando) and droid sex, which was kind of ridiculous. I actually liked Solo quite a bit but Lando's droid might have been the worst part of the movie.

Honestly the only thing that really bothered about TLJ was the dumb space bomber sequence.

I thought the Rey/Kylo Ren story arc was really good. The rest of the film was somewhere between meh and ok to me.

It feels like two different movies.

One movie with Rey, Kylo Ren and Luke. That part of the movie to me is pretty great, with interesting interactions between the characters, and it includes the best lightsaber battle since Obi Wan + Qui Gon vs Darth Maul. The only issue I have with it is the reveal that Rey's parents are nobodies, when TFA at least hinted at them being somewhat important. I don't think that's important in the grand scheme of things.

The other half has probably the worst/dumbest villain of the series, General Hux, ridiculous space bombers, a dumb and annoying low speed chase through space, a flying Princess Leia and a pointless visit to a space casino. It felt forced, done only to give Finn and Poe something to do until they reached the Salt planet.

I have no problem with female and multi-racial characters, but Rey is poorly written IMO. She's just too perfect. She hasn't received any training but she's an expert pilot, a capable lightsaber fighter and she can even use the force to manipulate storm troopers. They could have developed her a bit better, showing her to have raw strength, but needing some guidance.

I'm baffled why so many people hate this movie.

There are some flaw with the movie. Certainly the space bombers were more than a little ridiculous. But the whole series is filled with silliness like that.

What is it that you hated about this movie so much?

3) A movie about a space chase turned out to be the most boring space chase in cinematic history.

8) Took the only remotely interesting NEW concept (dark and light side teaming up) and flushed it down the drain so..

It's kinda ridiculous sure. But then if you research actual real life robots you get about 3 stories deep before you find someone talking about building a sex robot so maybe its not so ridiculous.

But that's exactly why Emilia Clarke asked the question "How would that work?". She's as baffled by it as we are. The writers likely don't even know the answer themselves, but just figured they'd leave it with the droid saying "Oh it works!". We don't know every detail about how the thing is built so I guess they just leave it to the imagination of those who care to imagine it.

What else would Clarke have been talking about when she asked the question? Keeping in mind they just had a discussion where the droid told her why she didn't think the relationship would work for reasons other than her being a droid and Lando being human.

Also (and perhaps this was all that was really needed to make the point) before the movie was released, I'm pretty sure someone at Lucasfilm went on record calling Lando a pan-sexual which they later explained means that in addition to being bisexual he also has sex with droids.
