Matt Stafford is not worth $27 Million.

A non-elite QB who never won a playoff game.

Lions have no choice. Let him go and begin new search for a qb, while some other team gives
Him what he wants or sign him.

Stop excusing this fucked up deal.

Maybe they not to stop publishing players contracts. The next QB will one up then the next. Soon there will only be money for the QB, to hell with the rest of the roster.

Here I am!
If you want to justify Flacco's contract by comparing notes with what teams like the Lions do, go ahead!
This is the year the Ravens finish behind the Browns. Own it!!!!!!!

Funny you don't use that same approach toward Flacco.....And where is @Southieinnc ?....He may have to get therapy when he finds out that Flacco's contract has dropped to #6 now and will be even lower once Rodgers and others get paid.....You guys have lost your ammo !!!! :nono:
"
Stafford's record-setting deal pushes Flacco down to No. 6 in terms of average per season. Flacco's $22.1 million per-year average is dwarfed by Stafford's $27 million per-season value.

Like Flacco, Stafford isn't expected to stay at No. 1 for too long. The money for quarterbacks is only going to go up with Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins and Drew Brees set for new deals.

For now, Stafford is the NFL's highest-paid player and maybe everyone will start asking whether he is an elite quarterback, as well."
No ammo lost. Bubble Gum Joe is still one of the most overpaid one and done's in the league. The difference here is the Ravens have/had some pretty good Ds to carry Blowzooka. Stafford has been on his own. I'd take Stafford and this contract on the Ravens over Joe's current contract.
I'll likely draft Stafford again in my FFL. You couldn't give me Flacco.

Hmmm...didn't just slide by Carr's deal....pretty much blew it out of the water. $30m per year is just around the corner.

The Lions do realize Calvin Johnson retired right? He ain't there to make Stafford look better anymore.

In a odd way CJ made Stafford worse. Not CJ's fault just that Detroit never gave them a threat on on the other side so Stafford simply forced the ball to CJ. Defenses didn't have to plan to hard against them.

Yay the Lions are now crippled by the salary cap and we won't have a shot to win shit for about a decade.

Much, much worse.

He was absurdly better with decision making last year. Some of that is another year with Cooter. Some of that is no security blanket. (He never even had a QB coach before Jim Bob. How fucked up is that? Only the Lions...)

I was hoping for a trade with an assload of picks in return. But not unhappy with this deal really. Better than tagging him twice.

What makes you say that?

(No disagreement with the good luck part. We'd be lucky to be the Vikings. And they haven't won a SB either.)

Getting about the time I want to hit the sack, but it really just boils down to this:

Great QB, sub-par roster

vs

Good QB- bad roster.

Not a great formula for success. Scarcity matters of course as I mentioned earlier in the thread, but I'd be really wary of this kind of cap commitment for anything less than a great or transcendent QB. Doesn't mean the Lions can't build a stable defense and offense around Stafford- it'll just be that much harder now. The new GM better be on his toes.
