Walker had comparable numbers to Vlad (even after accounting for Coors, he actually has a slightly higher OPS+) and he was a much better baserunner (much more efficent as a base stealer and he hit into far fewer double plays) and fielder.

What gives Walker points imo is that he showed that he can hit at a high level on non-Rockie teams....

-his last 3 years with the Expos' at ages 25-27, he hit .294 with a 137 OPS+
-at the end of his career with the Cards at age 37-38, he hit .286 with 26 HR and a 134 OPS+

So he hit well in non-prime years for other teams, which likely means he would've hit well elsewhere in the years between even had he weren't a Rockie (unlike Vinny Castilla).

Looking at the results...

There are 164 total votes. That means there are AT LEAST 17 ballots. The top vote-getter is Bonds, with 10 votes.

Nobody gets in.

Actually you are reading percentage and not votes.

Raines, Bonds, Bagwell, Clemens, and Edgar Martinez all have 13 or more votes. Which would be 3/4 of 17.

A First Look at the Hall of Fame Ballot | FanGraphs Baseball

It really is a strong group of players. J.D. Drew and Mike Cameron had very underrated careers. There's no case to be made for them in the HOF of course, but I'd consider them HOVG guys. Both players did a lot of things well. Cameron was a very good defender in centerfield with power and speed. J.D. Drew was a good all-around player (rated as a strong defender with a 125 OPS+, hit into only 84 double plays), but struggled to play a full season and barely finished with over 6000 PA. Both players had over 45 fWAR.

What is the consensus on Rolen? Will he get in? I would vote for him

I'd imagine the injuries and lack of MVP votes (only got votes in four different seasons, and only finished in the top 10 once (4th in 2004)) will make things difficult for him, especially given the writers' treatment of the 3rd base position. He should be a no-brainer, but I'm not so sure he'll get in. He was an excellent ballplayer when he was on the field (43.9 WAA). His defensive reputation and impressive batting numbers might be enough though. He does have a 122 OPS+, over 500 doubles and 316 home runs, and he's considered a historically good defender via the eye test/metrics/hardware.

Funny you mention that, cause I read an article the other day that said Rolen is the Mussina of 3B.

Yeah...

Cohn has always been a blowhard.

Bonds and Clemens never broke any baseball rules. They pushed the limits of legit competitiveness, sure, but they never did anything against the rules. And they were both all-time greats before they started to blur the lines anyway.

And his constant claims of not voting for Bonds has nothing to do with his disdain for the man personally? Me thinks thou dost protest too much.

Cohn is writing a column for casual fans.

I seem to sense that for him the only real measure of a H of F guy is if he had a very long career, which allows for compilation of various accepted statistics, like a lot of HR or RBI or stolen bases. You play 20 years, you are going to get some identifiable numbers and that doesn't automatically make you "one of the greatest ever." I do concede you have to have talent to keep getting contracts.

Where do you find these bullshit writers? They're basically examples of what not to do as a voter
To be fair, Cohn has been a rather high-profile columnist in the BA for over 40 years. He is not some johnny-come-lately flash in the pan blogger.
