Which is exactly why I said not to overreact to one game...

13-9 was more an offensive failure than a ST failure, WVU had an offensive juggernaut in 2007, then only to score 7 points against sPitt. The two missed FGs were because the offense stalled, there should not have been any FGs attempted............ we are not reacting to one game about STs, but an ongoing trend.

DeForest recruited Lambert and O'Toole... two of the best kickers in the Big 12.

Alford returned a KO for a TD against Bama. Does he gamble... yes. Can he be a difference maker in kick return... yes.

Punt coverage and KO coverage are light years ahead of where they were under Stewart.

Is there room for improvement... yes.

Let's be realistic.

BB....realistic are you crazy...I say any position makes a mistake that position coach should be gone.

Shell fumble Seider gone
Alford fumble Galloway gone
LB's miss tackle Cogdell Gone
Offensive line missed some blocks lets get rid of him as well

When will you learn this program will cease to exist soon.

Not when Stewart was the ST coach, we had good ones then, they went down hill when Stewart left that position and became head coach.

Stew was special teams coach when we lost 13-9....didn't we miss two very makeable FG's in that game? I guess instead of firing him back then you guys thought it would be better to promote him to head coach.....

And with that I give you the next head coach of WVU...Joe Deforrest....

I just looked through the game stats, not a single kickoff was run back for a TD against us from 2001-2007, 2008-2009, TWO kickoffs were run back for TDs against WVU, Cinci ran one back in 2008, and Rutgers ran one back in 2009. While Stewart was ST coach, not a one was ran back. BUT, BB and DC have no agenda.......

BTW Mike,

When Stewart became the head coach... he kept his position as ST coach.

Do you remember all of the punt returns we had for TD under Stewart?

It is just one game and ST did not lose it for us. They did great against Alabama and Towson. ST cannot give up 14 points per game without losing some games. Hopefully Eforrest gets moving and corrects the mistakes. A repeat performance will doom us against Oklahoma and many members in the B12.

In reality, our bad performance is a result of individual mistakes. A missed block, a fumble, running into the returner. line drive punt down the middle of the field. Taking it out of the endzone is a gamble, but that gamble scored us a TD against Alabama.

My current ST score is 9-14. one return TD, one safety vs. one punt return TD and one fumble in the red zone leading to a TD. We have had much worse special teams in the past. With this team, I do not cheer to kick the kickoff out of bounds.

I realize that, he should have put someone there for a coach, to much for a head coach to do, just my opinion. I do think he was a good ST coach. I have not liked eforre after the first season.

I do not condemn a missed FG, it is a mistake the kid made. You want to harp about the two missed field goals, trying to somehow hang that loss on Stewart, when the question about that game is: how does an offense that was unstoppable in every other game so completely shut down, how did WVU gain less than 200 yards. IF both of those FGs had been made, it would have been 13-13, going into OT, neither offense did much in that game, so who knows, that game may still have been being played today. WVU averaged 33 yards per KO return, sPitt 17, WVU averaged 45 yards per punt, with ONE 9 yard return, sPitt averaged 36 yards per punt. WVU intercepted two passes in this game. IF you want to know why WVU lost the game.....2.5 yards per rush, five fumbles, NOT the two missed FGs.

I have seen nothing special from our ST all year. When you pay a guy 500K to coach ST, you should get your money's worth. I can see this becoming our Achilles heel this year.

I would go as far as I have seen nothing special for the ST since say...oh...1973........

Maybe he is implying Pitt would not have intentionally taken a safety at game's end?
