Should the Lions trade Shaun Hill?

Well, well, well. Several teams around the league have seen their quarterbacks go down in the last couple weeks and they have no capable backups.

The Lions have the best backup in football in Shaun Hill. He's old, but has performed very well in the last 4 years when called upon. He could be a very nice 2-year solution for several teams while they draft/sign/heal their QB of the future.

Who should be the trading partners? What should the Lions ask? Candidates:

St. Louis Rams - They have a good defense and some youth, but Sam Bradford wasn't the answer before he went down for the year and Kellen Clemens is a joke. I'd ask for a third for Hill and they should pay it if they want to keep developing their youth and have a placeholder until they can get a true starting QB.

Minnesota Vikings - they obviously are scrambling for anything that can throw a football and so far their options suck. Again Hill would provide a great bridge to a real QB. In the division I'd want a second for him, though.

Chicago Bears - Not as urgent since McCown looked every bit as good as Cuntler, but if McCown were a real QB he'd be on a team other than the Bears. See above for price within the division.

Tampa Bay - Mike Glennon? Really? If the coach wants to save his job, he needs QB help right now. I'd ask a second here since they should be desperate unless they're ready to admit failure and blow it up.

No point in TB trading for a QB, they're already bad, just tank, fire the coach and get a QB in the next draft

I think Chicago will be fine with Josh McCown

I don't see the Vikings doing anything since they have a glut of QB's

So that leaves the Rams as the only obvious option

If Schiano wants to save his job he has to win at least 6 games this year. If TB fires Schiano then they're clear sellers.

Forget a draft pick. Try and get a CB.

I'd call St Louis. They should realize they're going to be third, at best, in the division. But if they don't....

A third is laughable. He's not likely to draw even a seventh.

Every one of these teams is more likely ready to punch out for the next 10 games and start looking forward to next year, rather than trade a future pick for a back up QB now.

Only the Bears had a legit chance at the post season anyways.

Rams are trash. Trash O line, trash RB's, trash RB's, just took another 1st round bust, trash at WR, and Jeff Fisher is pretty much a trash coach who held the Rams up trying to get more $$$ from them by flirting with Miami. They have a great MLB, two great DE's and 1 great CB. All great pieces to build on, but not nearly enough to mortgage the future for this year. They should hold onto their picks, and do whatever they can to land a real QB in the draft.

Tampa and the Vikes are both looking at HC changes imo. The GM won't waste anymore picks on these guys.

I'd rather trade Linehan.

If they can get a respectable offer than I say yes.

I think if Alex Smith got hurt then KC would want him and possibly SF. They are really the only teams other than us that he fits.

Maybe the Browns would entertain an offer? Joe Haden? A good corner for a good quarterback. The Brownies are decent and a solid QB could get them a wildcard spot.

Uhhhh, a potential shutdown corner for years for a player that won't last 3 more years? Um, yeah....

The problem I see with St Louis is that they want to stick with their number 1 draft pick QB after he's healthy.. So you wouldn't be selling high with them..

Decent hell. Those brownies must be the greatest of all time. However, if I was that high, I'd trade Hill to Houston for J.J. Watt.
