He needs Tommy John surgery now so none of that matters at this point.

This is why you join a good franchise.

Dude never should’ve seen the mound again this season.

That implies any thought went into this decision.

I don't think any thought has ever gone into any Angels decisions...

They did get trout to sign long term.

Maybe trout is stupid too?

Ohtani goes 4-4 with 2 home runs after finding out he might need Tommy John.

TJS usually requires a lot less time for hitters than pitchers, so there's that.

It's been a rough season for the Angels health wise (though the pitching staff isn't very surprising), not to mention the A's and Mariners have been better than anticipated.

Well, if you think about it, the Angels didn't really do much of anything during the offseason aside from add Ohtani and he wasn't just gonna change things around right away by himself. Trout and Upton are their only big bats. Simmons can hit the ball but not hard, Pujols is done for the and he wasn't even himself this year. Their rotation is Ohtani and Barria, that's really it. The Angels need to build from their farm system or they need to pull a Yankees and sign up a huge bat or arm. the Angels roster just isn't really that good outside of Trout and Pujols.

the Angels infield in 2017 was atrocious, particularly at 2nd and 3rd. Kinsler and Cozart figured to represent big upgrades over their 2017 counterparts even if they were only average. Kinsler was worth 2.6 WAR as an Angel this year but Cozart hasn't been able to stay healthy (and when he has been on the field, he's sucked). There's also the matter of Pujols being complete garbage.

Kole Calhoun has also fallen off a cliff at the plate the last few years.

Skaggs and Heaney have looked pretty good IMO.

Definitely. A's have had some luck as well with a pretty dumb record in one-run games (27-12), but they're only 4 games above their expected W-L (80-61) and they've been playing legitimately good baseball since the beginning of June.
