So if the Giants win, the Cards will be 2 out with 4 games left to play.

Bumgardner is almost a lock to pitch in the WC game if they make it since he's pitching on Friday

It's pretty much a playoff game tonight for the Cardinals.
If they lose tonight to Cinci, they're done.

They have three left with Pittsburgh, against whom they are 2-5 at Busch Stadium this year. Don't see the Cards sweeping the Pirates.

The Mets are 4-2 at Citizens Bank Park this year. The Mets go 1-2 vs the Phillies, and they're at least tied with St. Louis at 86 wins...IF St. Louis can win out.

The Giants have one more with Colorado tonight, and then three with The Dodgers. If they win three of those four, AND St. Louis wins out, they're tied. But the Giants are 5-2 vs the Dodgers in SF this year, and they have Cueto on the mound tonight vs. the Rockies.

I hope the Cards miss the playoffs, but I'm also pretty sick of the "even year!!!" crap. Giants are pretty crappy.

Anything can happen once you're in, but I honestly don't see anybody getting past Chicago this year. Washington is limping, the Dodgers are habitual playoff chokers, and the possible wildcard teams are all deeply flawed.

Not trying jinx anything for anybody, but like I said above, if the Cubs don't win the pennant...

3 days to decide four teams...I guess this is what we live for.

Baltimore drew even with the Jays, who still can't decide if they want to be in the playoffs this year. O's finish out in New York (7-8 vs the Yanks; 2-5 in the Bronx) and the Jays go to Boston (8-8 vs the Sox; 4-3 at Fenway). Toronto would seem to have the easier path, but...gotta play em.

Detroit is 1.5 back and had that rainout with the Indians yesterday. We'll see if they need to play it, and if it messes with Cleveland's playoff rotation. It would have to happen Monday, as the WC game is scheduled for Tuesday. Tigers have to play a very hot Atlanta team who will be closing out Turner Field. Good luck.

Seattle is 2 back but need several miracles to even wind up in a multi-team tie. Closing out with a bad Oakland, against whom they are 11-5 this year BUT - Oakland swept the Mariners at home back in April.

St. Louis kept the pressure on as they beat Cincinnati last night. They still need to sweep Pittsburgh and get some help from the Phillies and/or Dodgers, as discussed above in post #83. Still a possibility of all three teams making it.

Good to see some integrity in baseball with the Dodgers showing up this weekend.

Its really odd seeing a team tank to their rival when that team has won the World Series so often. It sucks but thats not the reason the Cardinals are not winning a World Series this year. The excuse list I've got:

1. Wacha 2015 (3.0 WAR) vs Wacha 2016 (-0.3 WAR)
2. Jaime Garcia 2015 (3.9 WAR) vs Jaime Garcia 2016 (0.8 WAR)
3. Lance Lynn 2015 (3.5 WAR) vs Adam Wainwright (0.9 WAR)
4. Trevor Rosenthal 2015 (2.7 WAR) vs Trevor Rosenthal 2016 (0 WAR)
5. Lackey (2.4 WAR) vs Leake (0.6 WAR)

and I'm probably missing some things.

Well, I was totally wrong about St. Louis not being able to get it done at home against Pittsburgh. They sure played like they wanted it. Good thing they're out, and can't cause any further damage.

That's what happened with the Sox in 2012 after the epic 2011 collapse... some very key players declined significantly. Not to mention Ortiz played only 90 games in 2012. Most projections had the Sox winnin 85-90ish games and making the playoffs, IIRC.

Ellsbury 2011 (8.9 WAR) vs Ellsbury 2012 (1.0)
Gonzalez 2011 (6.9) vs Gonzalez 2012 (3.0)
Pedroia 2011 (7.9) vs Pedroia 2012 (5.1; still a very good season, but a pretty big dropoff from his career year)
Youkilis 2011 (3.9) vs Youkilis 2012 (0.3 in 42 games)
Lester 2011 (4.4) vs Lester 2012 (0.7)
Beckett 2011 (5.8) vs Beckett 2012 (0.2)

Sox had 50.5 WAR in 2011. 26.5 in 2012.
