A QB can't play defense, and a pitcher doesn't (often) play offense...they have no control over the other aspects of the game.

The coach has control. Yes, players play, but it is also the coaches job to put them in situations to succeed. Something we often see coaches fail to do a regular basis.

elway was far more mobile, and IMO, a bit tougher.

either way denver had to break cap rules twice to pay davis, elway, and smith. they got caught twice.

No, but he oversees the entire team. Puts the game plan together from offense to defense and special teams.

His impact on the overall team is greater than just any one position player, even the QB. If it weren't, QB's wouldn't be "resurrected" under new coaches, or crumble under new offensive schemes when the old coach is fired/leaves and a new coach or O-cord is brought in.

Yeah. The whole team isn't playing as well. But he's still only .15 yds behind rivers in ypa right now. So even with the small sample size struggles, he's "placing the ball" just a little bit weaker than Rivers, for once in his career I guess.
