The good news is Gordon and Cain are eeking back towards their hitting in 2015, and 2B is actually a bit better than replacement value (a vast improvement). Morales looks like the guy from 2014 which looked like he had 1 step out of the league however, and that's concerning to say the least.

With the way it has gone, I'd imagine the Royals start Gee and Duffy and replace one, if not both, with Zimmer and/or Almonte by midsummer. They really don't have any room to add payroll anyway, imo. Blew their wad in FA; not much worth dangling in the upper minors anymore, anyways.

and how is our ol' mets buddy Dillon Gee doing these days??

Actually a pretty competent long-reliever from what I have seen. Was kind of surprised, personally. I just hope he's an average #5, he'll have plenty of help with the park and defense. I am assuming the HR/FB% isn't an absurd 20% and his xFIP is more indicative than his FIP.

I just checked: Still plagued by the gopherball...although his relief numbers aren't that bad for 20 innings.

18 hits, 6 runs, 4 homers, 8 walks, 16 K's!!

It's nice to see the Padres playing well, winning 9 of their last 14 games, but they'll go on the long losing streak at some point and be clearly out of the running for this crappy division by July or August. I'll enjoy the way they've been playing until then though.

Pioneer James Whyte Davis to get home plate-shaped gravestone

Associated Press
9:56 PM ET

NEW YORK (5/12)-- A baseball pioneer who has rested in an unmarked grave since he died in 1899 will finally get the recognition he craved when a cemetery unveils his gravestone.

The home plate-shaped monument honoring James Whyte Davis will be unveiled Saturday at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Davis started playing baseball in the 1840s at the dawn of the game and was president of the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York City, one of the earliest baseball teams, from 1858 to 1860.

According to the Society for American Baseball Research, Davis played a role in some of the most seminal moments in baseball history, serving as a delegate to the 1867 convention of the National Association of Amateur Base Ball Players.

In 1892, Davis put out a request for every active baseball player to chip in 10 cents for his grave marker, historians said.

"That did not go anywhere because it was already almost 50 years since his start with the Knickerbockers," Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman said.

But thanks to the Society for American Baseball Research and Major League Baseball, Davis is finally getting the gravestone he wanted, complete with the epitaph he wrote.

The epitaph refers to Davis as "Too Late," a nickname he apparently earned because he often was late to his own games.
