So Mr goodell: you were not concerned when dez bryant and the Cowboys were screwed out of a NFC championship game appearance, but since the steelers got screwed in a regular season game you are all of a sudden concerned? Go Fuck you self goodell#!

While I know for a fact Dez caught that ball, Dallas would have found a way to blow the lead anyway by leaving Rodgers too much time.

They've done it twice since then and would have done so then as well.

Sadly... one cannot argue your statement. And in that particular game, Rodgers the one legged quarterback shredded the defense after the play in question anyway.

BECAUSE WE HAD ABSOLUTELY ZERO PASS RUSH YOU SEE!!!

'Concerned' Goodell wants catch rule changed

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is pushing to change the league's notorious catch rule this offseason, a response to nearly a decade of complaints from coaches, players and fans about its counterintuitive nature.

"I'm not just somewhat concerned [about the rule]," Goodell said in an interview with FS1's "The Herd with Colin Cowherd." "I am concerned."

problem is we have come so far we cant go back.

what used to be a catch no longer is, and the new criteria for a catch is nearly impossible in some cases. we have set a high water mark.

no matter what you do people will point to todays current rules and say "see? it was/wasnt a catch 2 years ago! we got screwed!"

Will the new rule finally state in writing the gray area involving the Patriots? Just needs to state the obvious that everyone already knows.

The Cowboys shouldn't have even been in that game in the first place, as the Lions were screwed by that BS pass interference non-call. So crying about Dez Bryant getting screwed by the catch/non-catch call is the height of hypocrisy.

I just have problems with a rule that says someone didn’t catch a ball that they clearly did.

Especially since the refs seem to have it right every time. We think it's a catch, the refs think it's a catch and the announcers think it's a catch. But it's not.

if so then every TD would be considered a catch

That's probably what's gonna happen... Pass rush will be a 5 mississippi count, receivers get a 5 yard cushion for every pass defended in the secondary, tackling below or above the waist is a penalty... If a receiver touches the football with the intent of a catch, it's an auto 1st down !! Rodger Goodell approves! :D

Wait till it happens to the Pats, the rule would be changed during the actual game

No they'd just ignore it like they did against the ravens to keep them undefeated like they did in 07. Dude juggles it from one side to the other, they ignore it. TD.

Yeah but can't we say that about all rules (for the most part) seems like a lot has changed over the years

well I think if you are diving for the catch this rule makes sense.
Where as when you complete the catch & then turn up field make a football move whatever & then dive & the ball moves. Please it is a catch. Common Sense is only wrong in DC

I think the very first order of business in these calls is to limit the time spent looking at the replay from a hundred angles. If the guys in NY can't definitively make a decision in 45 seconds, the call on the field stands , period. There will still likely be a few disputed calls but at least, we won't be falling asleep on the couch waiting for the game to resume 5-10 minutes after the fact. Some of those replay calls were excessively long and really ruined the flow of some good games. The call being right or wrong became irrelevant at that point, imo.

"You want there to be clarity from an officiating standpoint and a coaching and player standpoint," Goodell said. "... I think here you might have clarity in a large element of it, but what happens is that it's not the rule that people really want."

Details of the league's plan to tweak the rule are not yet clear. But Goodell indicated it will focus on instances like the James play -- or those involving Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant in previous years -- where receivers initially appear to have control of the ball while falling the ground. An operating theory, Goodell said, will be the idea that "fans want catches."
What an asinine way to perceive this. The fans want catches ruled catches and non-catches ruled non-catches. Why do I get the feeling they are going to over-correct based on that statement.

The biggest thing they need to figure out is on plays going to the ground...what factor did the ground play?

Fake news. The pass interference should have been on Detroit when Pettigrew pulled Hitchens face mask before Hitchens ran into him
