Whoever came up with the whole "going to the ground" shit really fucked this all up beyond repair.

I'm not sure how they'll fix that or word it, except to say that the ground can no longer cause an incompletion. We'd basically be back to the officials using "eye test", as in .. if it looks like a catch it's a catch.

well I think if you are diving for the catch this rule makes sense.
Where as when you complete the catch & then turn up field make a football move whatever & then dive & the ball moves. Please it is a catch. Common Sense is only wrong in DC

You'd still have to define a "diving" catch and separate them from the ones people seem to get upset about. Where the receiver is off balance/going to the ground while catching the ball.. but not diving ? I'm not sure how that would work.

Contact was made going to the ground. On his 2nd and 3rd steps.

Ipso fatso down by contact would be my spin.

Offsetting at best.. the Fail Mary was a TD, Calvin's was a TD and Dez caught it.. downed by contact at the 1/2 yard line.

The NFL makes this too damn hard. A catch is simple. If the receiver catches the ball, has full control and gets both feet in then it is a catch. Just like the ground cannot cause a fumble it should not cause an incomplete pass.

I've said for a few years. If a 12 year old watches and thinks it's a catch it should be a catch. You shouldn't have to explain why it isn't a catch. If you do, then something is wrong

Owners passed the revised catch rule by a vote of 32-0.

The new rule eliminates the "going to the ground" portion of the catch rule and simplifies what constitutes a catch -- ball secure, two feet or any other body part besides the hand inbounds, and a football move. In presenting the changes, VP of officiating Al Riveron confirmed Dez Bryant's infamous "incompletion" in the 2014 playoffs and Jesse James' overturned touchdown last season would be considered catches under the new rule.
