14 game winner in 1970. I didn't look, but the only guys I could think of would be Nolan or Gullett, and it's probably not either one.

I will guess Wayne Simpson because he started the 70 season like 9-1 and got hurt.

Ok--here is a good one. What was the name of the right fielder who came to the Reds with Clay Kirby in the mid 70's from the Padres. It was later discovered that he married a transexual. Just thought I would toss that tidbit in there to juice it up a bit for ya--LOL--but true.

Here is one last one for you trivia buffs:laugh3:. What Cincinnati born reliever logged 184 career saves between 1974-1989 as a side winding rightie? Clue: He used to kill the Reds in lates inning games but ironically his last recorded save was as a Red? Name this tobacco chewing player.

Simpson is the 14-game winner. I remember the Reds announcers interviewing Bob Gibson about Simpson and Gibby said Simpson's career would be short because of poor mechanics. He was right.

I didn't know anybody came over with Kirby in that trade. Reds gave up Bobby Tolan, I recall.

Kirby, as I recall, was pitching a no-hitter in the 9th for the Padres, who were 42 games out of first place and their manager Preston Gomez lifted him for a pinch hitter.

I think you may be confused. I don't think the Reds got a RF in that trade- they sent Tolan and Dave Tomlin to the Padres for Kirby alone, I believe. Bernie Carbo was a Reds Rf that was a #1 draft pick, one round earlier than Johnny Bench. He later played against the Reds in the 75 World Series. He retired to become a hairdresser. Buff said. Is he the guy you though married a tranny? If not, please tell us... inquiring minds want to know.

It figures.

I see there is a trivia thread, and, once I find it, there is no active question to answer.

Maybe another time........

Big D ... feel free to offer a question. It started out as Reds trivia so we probably will wobble around on that premise.

Fellows: Let me try to correct my dunderhead Trivia question: My memory was completely off. Great question so let me get this correct. This player, who is married to a tranny, was dealt from the Orioles as RF/PH after the 73 season to the Reds for Ross Grimsley where he helped the Reds to a world series title. He was later dealt to the Padres for Rudi Meoli. So who is this player? Easy one now for ya.

On a side note: In 1990, as a banker, I was sitting in my office when this tall and imposing man walked in asking for a loan. It took me all of 10 seconds, as a huge Reds fan, to know who he was---It was Clay Kirby. He was freaked out that I knew who he was because he was not a household figure on those championship teams. Clay had a heart attack and died several years ago but I got a chance to ask him many questions about the Big Red machine.

Rettenmund is the correct answer. I had read on a sports site, as reported by a another player, that he married a Transvestite. And as I remember, this was all reputable and true. Curious if anyone else ever heard this disturbing fact.

If there is one thing I have learned about me and trivia, is that I am pretty good at answering questions, but lousy in asking them, making questions either way too easy, or way too hard, which is no fun for everyone.

I'll just check in from time to time, and see if there is anything I can answer.

Was the first name Susan by chance? I found a wife for him by that name, but no info that she was packing any "extra parts."

The proverbial boy named Sue ? I think I may be sick. Didn't he test drive before you bought the car ? At least sit in the damned thing and see if the stereo worked ? I'm flabbergasted.
