I think it's a blessing in disguise that the division isn't wrapped up. Did you guys really want to see Banister empty out the bench for several games in Oakland and significantly reduce our chances of victory? The A's give us fits and I'm trying to look at the big picture which is getting homefield. Trust me.... the last thing we want to do is to start the playoffs at Fenway / Progressive/ Canada. If the rooster is going to trot his white flag line ups out there, let him do it at home. We might still be able to win.

No one was thrown at tonight and minimal Joe West theatrics although he still neglects,to get bats out of the way of runners coming to the plate. Although Schepp was challenging these guys, he sure looked like he had a few very hard hit balls the defense bailed him out. Mitch play was awesome

And yes Roogie needs to stop chasing so much. He mighty then see a FB every once in a while

That has to be so minimal it's not worth doing. I can understand if it is for Moreland or Beltran or someone but that is a wasted move.

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers fell to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday 5-4, failing to trim the team's magic number to clinch a playoff spot from two games.

But the game featured a strong performance from trade-deadline acquisition Carlos Beltran. The veteran hit a two-run home run to draw the Rangers within one. Typically a designated hitter, Beltran made a rare appearance in right field and had an outfield assist.

"I feel like I contributed a little bit," Beltran said after the game.

The Rangers traded prospects to the New York Yankees at the Aug. 1 trade deadline to add Beltran's bat to the lineup. That move combined with another trade with the Milwaukee Brewers convinced Beltran how serious this team is about contending in the postseason.

"I think since [before] I joined the ballclub, this team was playing good baseball so the fact they went out and got me, I felt the responsibility to go out and help as much as I could to continue to win ballgames," Beltran said. "[Jonathan] Lucroy, myself and [Jeremy] Jeffress in the time he was here, we felt like we have a pretty good job.

"But the team itself, the confidence that this team has is unbelievable. It seems like every single day, it doesn't matter how far behind in the game we are, we feel like we can come back."

The only problem with that is if we had clinched due to winning 2 more games we would be 2 more game up on Boston and Cleveland. Also, I don't think you will see an emptying of the bench for several games. The first game after we clinch might look like a AAA lineup and probably the last game of the season, but for the most part the regular guys will get close to the ABs that they were getting. At least that is how I think it will go.
