It is so sad to hear about Jose Fernandez. My prayers are with his family, friends and teammates. Life is so fragile.

Baseball America named Jorge Alfaro their minor league catcher of the year.

Seems his D has greatly improved.
I think too much was made of his defense in the past. It takes awhile to become a good defensive catcher for a lot of guys.

Just heard this while at Church. Divestating! What a future that kid had. That franchise was built around him and Stanton. Sad day in MLB. Prayers for the family.

Player Note Sat, Sep 24

Shin-Soo Choo (forearm) took batting practice against live pitching on Saturday.

The Rangers are very hopeful that Choo will be active for the start of the ALDS, and it's not inconceivable that he could return in time to get a few at-bats before the end of the regular season. He has been on the shelf since August 17 due to a fractured left forearm.

Having Hoying and Hanser in the lineup will keep this thread busy today. :-)

at least Hoying got a couple hits yesterday, Hanser brings no bat to the field

It is so sad to hear about Jose Fernandez. My prayers are with his family, friends and teammates. Life is so fragile.
I play in a keeper fantasy league with literally thousands of dollars on the line, and I drafted Jose Fernandez his rookie year. I kept him every year and watched almost every one of his starts (or at least the highlights) on mlb tv. He was the star of my team and "my guy". I felt a connection with him like I do with our Rangers players. I cheered him on in every start and seeing him dominate brought me such joy. It was the same feeling that we all get when we get to see Yu Darvish throw a gem or Adrian Beltre reach another milestone. When you devote as much time, energy, and money into a fantasy team as I have with mine over the last 5 years, they become like your second team. And today I feel just completely apathetic and empty toward fantasy baseball. My team is in the semi-finals with a lot of money on the line, and I can't bring myself to look at the score. I just don't care. A player and person I never met or even got to watch in person is suddenly gone, yet it does feel as though a very small part of me has changed too. Baseball to me had become cheering for the Rangers and cheering for Jose Fernandez. It's still just very surreal.

EA gets a much deserved rest, he's been really good w the bat this season
The neat thing is he wanted to play and not take off. Leadership quality

I think we might be starting to re-think our desire to trade him this winter.

He struggled with passed balls and pitch framing, things that usually are learned with time

I'm assuming when you say "we" you're referring to some on this site? B/c I don't think the Rangers were intent on letting him go in the first place.

And now, with Profar not making a big splash I can't imagine we'd consider it.

And after the way his/our season ended last year, I've really gotta tip my hat to how well he's played. And earlier in the year, he addressed last season without excuse.

For him to play and lead this season the way he has it more than impressive to me.
