how does this make sense?

going by the BCS poll

#6 goes on the road to #16, and loses, on a last second hail mary pass

drops 9 spots to #15

#3 team plays an unranked team, at home...loses by a field goal

and drops 6 spots to #9

i dunno, i just dont get it.

I thought it was weird right at first too, so I looked into it...............Wisconsin only dropped to 11th in the Coaches poll, while Oklahoma dropped to 9th............but the computers absolutely hate Wisconsin at this point.

Wisconsin's average computer ranking is 24th. One computer doesn't even have them ranked. So beings that they are 11th in the Coaches, 12th in the Harris, and 24th in the computers.......with each of those serving as 1/3 of the formula, the computers just bring them down so much.

I'm assuming it's their strength of schedule. Even after playing Nebraska and Michigan State, their SOS is 108th according to Sagarin's rankings.

How are computers ranking conferences? Big 12 > SEC > Pac 12 > Big 10 > ACC > BE ?

It really doesnt make any sense though. Wisconsins opponents are a combined 26-25 and they have play 2 5 win teams and 2 6 win teams. Contrast that with Arkansas whos opponents are 23-31 and whos has played 2 5 win teams and 1 7 win team yet the Razorbacks SOS is MUCH better than Wisconsins....????? Doesnt make any sense to me but who knows.

I suppose it's the weight the SEC carries over the Big 10...........but that is a very good point. I have never liked this BCS crap.......there has to be a better way to do it than this. I swear the way we did it before was better than this.

I like to compare Penn St to Arkansas

No one is giving Penn St credit, even though their only loss was to Alabama by 16 pts (And these same people are building up Arkansas as a power house - Arkansas's only loss? Alabama by 24)

The difference between these two is that Arkansas has played a A&M team and Auburn team that were overrated when they played.

Did a thread on this yesterday. Penn State has the best opponents record of any team with 1 loss. better than Arkansas, better than MSU, better than Oregon, better than Wisconsin yet because PSU hasnt beaten a " name" team with the possible exception of Iowa the Lions get no credit. This brings forth the question of is better to beat a 5-3 Temple or a 2-5 Oregon State etc. I dont know the answer but I do know that PSU's numbers stack up favorably to any of the other 1 loss teams.

It's always funny when bowl season comes around..............we have all these preconceived notions of which conference is better than another conference, and it always ends up incorrect.

What is funny to me is that the year that the SEC actually doesn't field a National Championship Game team is the year that they might actually win all of their bowl games...

I think the computers not only take into account the win/loss records of a teams opponents, but also the win/loss records of the opponent's opponents.

And don't give Peen St credit for beating Temple, they should be knocked for struggling to beat Temple.

Those were played in two different places, and thus far Arkansas has scored the most against Alabama.
