Watched 3 Qtrs of this game last night...my focus was on the OL...the OT play in particular.
Matthews and Holmes were not perfect, Jake didn't directly give up a sack, but he allowed inside penetration...quick enough to recover and still block his man beyond Ryan, but the penetration forced Ryan to step up in the pocket into a another DL...he also got called for a hold....aside from that...he played very well for his 1st time on the left side as a pro...imo if and when Baker comes back it will be on the right side.
Holmes is going to struggle with the speed rusher, several times he gave up the edge and again Ryan was forced up in the pocket, but the middle of the line held ground and he was able to get off the pass...when Holmes connects squared up with the rusher...he won most of those battles and was solid in run blocking...both played well imo.
They used Quizz in short yardage runs which I thought was interesting...Not sure what they will get from Sjax this year, but I think the running game will be fine...Freeman will make plays running and catching...quicker and faster than Quizz.
The 4 wide set looked really good...Julio is back...Ryan to Douglas is going to take up a lot of those target to Tony G.
1st team DEF looked better this week...again the base had 4 DL, 2 LBs ,5 DBs on the field, but they jumped into a 3-4 look a few times...Osi is going to be a 3rd specialist...Hageman got a sack, and but I will say, in spite of going against the 2nd team DEF...Mettenberger is a keeper.
