Guys, it's Queensryche.

If you're going to talk about bands from Seattle, you had better put Mudhoney (nee Green River) and the Melvins in there. Also, if it were not for Mother Love Bone, none of the other bands mentioned would exist.

See my previous post...

wow, i cant read.

Chronic 2001 is one of the greatest CDs ever. I need to catch up on some old school rap.

I dont think I'd like Public Enemy though. too much race shit from the little bit I've heard of them. same reason i cant really get in to old school Ice Cube.

It's up there. The 92 Chronic is better, IMO, but I'm old school. Emphasis on "old."

Not liking PE is like someone into reggae not liking Bob Marley.

Mother love Bone was good, but they're essentially Pearl Jam with a less talented singer. No disrespect to Andy Wood, but he was more of a showman than a great voice. Mudhoney was good, but they're not as good as the "Big 4". I like your obscure Seattle scene knowledge (and I'll rep you when I get a chance), but I still believe my point stands.

(my bad about Queensryche.....I liked a couple of songs, but that's it really, I just respected them)

EDIT: If it makes you feel any better I hesitate to list Nirvana (besides their unplugged album which was good) in with the others as well. :heh:

See my previous post...

I kinda disagree. Mother Love Bone is not some one-off tribute band like Temple of the Dog. They are the Chuck Berry of the Seattle sound.

Regardless, Seattle sucks. At least that's what Mark Arm wants you to think.

I did not mean that MLB was a "superband" like TotD. I meant that MLB was like the Godfather of the scene, and gave birth the sound and influenced AIC, PJ, SG, STP, Nirvana, etc

I do agree with Filo on Nirvana, BTW. I think Cobain is INCREDIBLY over-rated. As we have seen with Foo Fighters, I think the real talent in that band may have been Grohl, but since he was not an over-the-top druggie and was "just a drummer", he did not capture the imagination of the MTV generation.

My "Predictions for June" thread has blown away Msgking's "Predictions for May" thread.

Besides Em, just not true. The greatest of all time are (in no particular order):
1. Ice Cube
2. Dre/Snoop
3. Public Enemy
4. Paris
5. Eminem
6. BDP
7. Tribe Called Quest
8. Wu Tang
9. TuPac
10. Beastie Boys
11. Nas
12. Run DMC
13. Outkast
14. Jay-Z
15. LL Cool J
16. Gangstar

Not much from the Midwest at all, really.

KRS 1 has to be on any Rap list , Top 5 at Worst
Throw in Big Daddy Kane also

PE for rap is like the Beatles to rock. They're not the greatest of all time, but they were the trailblazers. (EDIT: and they deserve respect)

+ 1

Flavor Flav grew up in Freeport , met him a couple of times and he's a lot better guy than he comes across .

Old school PE was great stuff
