So much rep-worthy material, so little time.

@sfsportsfan: Never got into Tech N9ne, but given your other faves, I'll have to give him another shot. Krizz was definitely a major brain fart. As far as Detroit, check out Malik, Sonny and Big Herk. Saw Atmosphere and P.O.S. at the Warfield in '09. I credit that trip to The City with winning over my wife. Btw, "Bad Meets Evil" is in my Top 5 favorite hip hop tunes of All-Time. Love Royce.

Tech is the man. If you're in to dark music, you should definitely ceck out K.O.D. thats my favorite album of his. I'll check out those guys. Also forgot Obie was from Detroit. Cheers was a classic album.

Your wife is a P.O.S fan? definite keeper. haha.

Whatd you think of the Bad Meets Evil EP?

You should check out rapmusic.com. theres a forum, HipHopCentral, thats great to talk rap. lotta trolls, but they're fun to clown on too.

Spinning "Gimme Shelter" on the old turntable right now. Nothing like vinyl.

As to all the music acts mentioned in this thread, I don't know ANY of them. Sorry. :behindsofa:

I did have a friend work on a music documentary in LA called "Broke*" featuring Will Gray. It was pretty good. Even for a codger like me.

I'll have to check that out. I really like good documentaries. Don't get all hyped up on the hip hop in this thread and start scratching up that record. ;)

You know it. Love it. Btw, listen to filo, too. There is some great Bay Area rap (LA is still leading the way, though... unless Oakland can claim TuPac). :loco:

I don't listen to rap that much any more unless it's one of the big 3 (of Dre Dog, Mac Dre or RBL).....'twas more of a HS phase. My favorite bands of all time (well a couple of them anyway) would bore the hell out of most people.

1.) Led Zeppelin
2.) Nick Drake
3.) Pearl Jam
4.) Elliott Smith
5.) Alice In Chains

Honorable mention to: The Doors, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Soundgarden, Oasis, Counting Crows and Stone Temple Pilots.

Broke* is about breaking into the music biz, or catching a big break, or being broken down by the process, or being penniless in the pursuit. They have an online download of MP3's. One guy I liked was Robert Randolph.

They have signed up to stream it on the internet. They also have some screenings in the LA area in the next couple of weeks. We went to the first one in Santa Monica, and they had a Q&A afterwards. It wasn't baseball, but it was entertaining and informative.

What?!? No Dire Straits? I evidently thought more highly of you than you deserved!

Don't sell me short Stokesy, I'm a tremendous slouch.

I never had anything against the Knopflersaurus, I just never was a huge fan of Dire Straits. Sorry brother.

I like Guns n Roses and early Aerosmith. Nirvana fucking sucked donkey balls. If Cobain didn't die and kept making music in to his mid 40's they'd go down as the worst Seattle band of the 4. I like Audioslave a lot, but I didn't mention them for the same reason I didn't mention Temple of the Dog or Mad Season (not the shitty Matchbox 20 album either).

Payback for having to live next door to Oakland. Anaheim is no prize either, but at least they have the self-proclaimed "Happiest Place on Earth," and some cool music venues.

And, let's be honest here, waaaaaay hotter chicks.

i gotta disagree. in fact, thats probably one of the only things I prefer so cal over nor cal for. but then again, im a borderline wigger who mostly only listens to rap, and am not a big fan of bay area rap.

LA has put out some good stuff in the last few years, with Game's last CD, Kendrick Lamar coming out, and Hopsin(who is one of my favorite rappers currently)/Funk Volume.

i'll say LA has us in music, and theme parks. other than that, they can eat a fat dick. and so can dubstep

Shock-G, tha Luniz, Michael Franti, E-40, Too Short, and Paris all say "yo!"

Note: two of the above went to Lowell. So fuck you.

Oh you litle ungrateful bastage. Andre Nickatina/Dre Dog, Mac Dre, RBL Posse, I.M.P., Cellski (a.k.a. - 2Took or Young Cell), Rappin' 4Tay, E-40, Richie Rich???

:D

The only kind of rap I like is Bay Area rap from the 90's or Tupac. You have much to learn about rap my young grasshoppa! (joking, music is all about personal taste/opinion.....do what you like)

FUCK LA! :heh:

Should have said "Big 4". Good call though on the Smashing Pumpkins (perhaps "Big 5"), I for some reason thought they were a NorCal band. I don't mind Queensreich, but they fall into the category of "one of these things is not like the other".

admittedly, i havent listened to a lot of the older stuff. I run into E-40 all over the place for some reason(oakland airport, blackhawk mall a few times, a WWE event), but I dont ever approach him to talk to him, cuz i know if his music were to come up, I'd like "yeah...i dont really like your shit that much." and then it'd get really awkward. I do have a couple of his cds on my ipod. just never listened.

Tbh, the midwest has the best rap. Tech N9ne, krizz kaliko, P.O.S, doomtree, eminem, royce, bone thugs, common, kanye(even if hes a douche), etc.

Besides Em, just not true. The greatest of all time are (in no particular order):
1. Ice Cube
2. Dre/Snoop
3. Public Enemy
4. Paris
5. Eminem
6. BDP
7. Tribe Called Quest
8. Wu Tang
9. TuPac
10. Beastie Boys
11. Nas
12. Run DMC
13. Outkast
14. Jay-Z
15. LL Cool J
16. Gangstar

Not much from the Midwest at all, really.

I was obviously joking about QR. They also pre-dated the "Seattle-scene" by about 10 years.

X-treem would have been a better throw-in.
