So you were rocking to MC Hammer at one point?

True story: In another life, I was a part-time mobile DJ. Stanley Burrell was an aspiring rapper and would go around to gigs and give away free vinyl of "Ring 'Em" to get us to play it.

I did. He's a good dude.

Besides Em, just not true. The greatest of all time are (in no particular order):
1. Ice Cube
2. Dre/Snoop
3. Public Enemy
4. Paris
5. Eminem
6. BDP
7. Tribe Called Quest
8. Wu Tang
9. TuPac
10. Beastie Boys
11. Nas
12. Run DMC
13. Outkast
14. Jay-Z
15. LL Cool J
16. Gangstar

Not much from the Midwest at all, really.

Mac Dre smokes about half of those out of the water, but it is a nice opinion you have there.

EDIT: And to Cal, yeah, I figured you were joking about QR, but I do like them and thought they deserved your mention. :)

And back to tz, really, LL Cool J??? WTF???

I meant currently, but damn you gotta lot of old school on your list.

Dre/Snoop at 2? Dre doesnt write his own rhymes, and Snoop fell off hard in the late 2000s.

**EDIT** i do love both of them though.

Don't sell me short Stokesy, I'm a tremendous slouch.

I never had anything against the Knopflersaurus, I just never was a huge fan of Dire Straits. Sorry brother.

Dude can seriously play a double steel guitar, though.

If you ever saw him live, you'd know.

Actually, the best LIVE show I ever saw is a tossup between Run DMC/Beastie Boys and Ice Cube/Da Lynch Mob

Mac Dre is worthy.

I said "no particular order." I'd hate to have to rank most of them. I mean, how do you compare Paris to PE? Quest to NWA?

Dude can seriously play a double steel guitar, though.

There's a video of some benefit concert where Knopfler is playing with Eric Clapton, no slouch himself. At one point, they each take turns playing the main guitar solo, they go back a forth a time or two. Finally, Clapton just stops playing, and watches Knopfler play with the quizzical look on his face, like he's thinking, "I'm pretty good, son, but how the hell do you make your guitar do that? Even I can't do that!" Priceless.

I knew he'd get to you once he licked his lips. ;)

I loved Muse Sick N Hour Mess Age. Run DMC is legit. I can't believe I forgot Brotha Lynch (I got the idea from Lynch Mob) too.

Yes he is. LL Cool J still sucks.

EDIT: You know I'm fucking with yout tz, I love this board. :)

wow, i cant read.

Chronic 2001 is one of the greatest CDs ever. I need to catch up on some old school rap.

I dont think I'd like Public Enemy though. too much race shit from the little bit I've heard of them. same reason i cant really get in to old school Ice Cube.

PE for rap is like the Beatles to rock. They're not the greatest of all time, but they were the trailblazers. (EDIT: and they deserve respect)

How does one evaluate the bolded above: a problem with race in rap music? Isn't that like saying 'I like rock music just not big on electric guitars'?

Yep, +100

"Fear of A Black Planet" is the "Revolver" of rap.

Soundgarden?

Thats 5...

and no Queensreich love? :)

Guys, it's Queensryche.

If you're going to talk about bands from Seattle, you had better put Mudhoney (nee Green River) and the Melvins in there. Also, if it were not for Mother Love Bone, none of the other bands mentioned would exist.
