My point is that you are going to great efforts to prove a conceded point. Gordon is a better runner than Panik.

Panik is a better HR hitter than Gordon. I assume you conceded that point, so there is no point to go back and forth for a page discussing it.

Gotcha, of course it's a small sample size. Everything leading up to the all star game is a relatively small sample size as we are talking about less than 70 games.

Great efforts? It's actually not very difficult to find out. And it was in response to you saying that Gordon's stolen bases don't add too much value due to the amount he has been caught stealing, which I agree with. But StanMarsh was pointing out Gordon's baserunning abilities go beyond just stealing bases.

Peralta has a strong case for SS. But IMHO, Craw has over-taken him. Peralta will win the vote, though.

Wong has fallen to 3rd behind Gordon and Panik. Still a stud, but also the 3rd best NL 2B so far this year.

Posey is the best catcher in the game right now. Molina has come on strong as of late, but Posey is still the class of the position.

Carpenter is good, but he does not belong anywhere near Frazier this year.

Well since 2000 there have been five:

2009 Dodgers
2008 Angels
2005 White Sox
2002 Braves
2000 White Sox

Now I think the Cardinals should have a starter (Peralta), but Crawford is a legit pick.

I just figure that Carpenter has been the best player on the Cardinals the past 3 years and that should give him a good cushion even if his numbers dont quite add up. But 5 teams have been running the NL the past 3 years and to have a player not from one of those 5 teams overtake someone from one of those 5 teams requires a superstar type performance or major discrepancy. But maybe thats just me.

I agree that history should BASICALLY be ignored in creating the all-star team. Look at the performances for the first half, and history should be taken into account only the tightest of races.

That said, I have no problem with fans taking "homer-ism" into account to a degree as well. If your team has a player putting up a strong year, and he is within striking distance of the "legit" starter, have at it. However, Goldy, Posey, Harper and Frazier should all be winning unanimous votes this year (maybe Molina pulling some recent votes at catcher).

Yeah I would say 2 teams as well. While the Braves, Dodgers, and Nationals would be pretty far behind. Braves have made the playoffs 3 times in the last 5 years, but haven't won a series. Dodgers and Nationals have only made it twice. Considering the Cardinals have made it 4 times and won a World Series, and the Giants have won 3 World Series, I'd say there is a pretty big gap.
