You are right too. PAC 12 ....Why not ? He could draw some recruits in a conference that has just a few really decent teams year after year. For now he'll do the ESPN thing. Why not....keeps him networked into the talk and speculation while he gets paid to get his face out there in the public's eye. Smart move by him....

If sumlin doesn't find a way to get over his late season losing streaks he will be out of a job soon. Big Money Ags are probably already talking to Chip Kelley. I've heard Chad Morris name mentioned my one of my BMA friends recently.

I hope Chip really enjoys his ESPN gig and they pay him very very well. I hope it is so lucrative and so enjoyable he finds no reason or has no desire to return to college.

Unless Oregon calls him.

I could see him possibly emerge at any of the schools in the poll, other than Notre Dame. They were burned in the past by hiring an offensive-minded coach who didn't see the importance of having a good defense. I think they just now finished paying off that mistake (Charlie Weiss).

Unlike Weiss, Chip knows a team needs at least some defense, but he puts most of his emphasis on the offensive side of things. I think Texas Tech, UCLA or Arizona may open up before the two SEC schools - unless those two fall even further in the coming season. But he may want to be on the ESPN anal list for a couple of years before he decides to jump back into coaching again.

I don't think he would take the UCLA job when he would be competing with a resurgent USC team on their own turf, but Arizona or either of the Texas jobs could prove to be enticing. Tennessee could become a landing spot, too, since there is no clear dominant team in the SEC East, and it would be something of a change-of-pace for both the coach and the football program.

I don't see how they avoid finishing higher than third in the SEC West again.

The defense won't be great, and there are question marks about the offense. I think they win 7, 8 games max......but I also don't think that's likely to get better anytime soon no matter who they hire.

Getting past LSU and Bama is not going to ever get easier.

I would go with a west coast region school. Where his fun and gun style seems to work a bit better.

The guy is 0-2 against the SEC West why should we hire Kelly?
How many SEC teams was coaching when he went against those teams? What was Saban's record against SEC teams when he went to LSU?

I don't understand your question

What was Saban's record against SEC teams when he went to LSU?
I don't know what his record was at Michigan State, heck I didn't know who he was until he was at LSU.

Well kind of all depends on which school's boosters pay the most for recruits. He is a horrible recruiting unless he is waving a blank check in front of a recruits mother's.

He's an offensive mind. His schemes work well with the athletes you already have on the roster. It won't require an entire rebuild.

As long as you do better at hiring a DC, Chip would be a good hire. Who else are you going to go with, Chad Morris? Using your same question......WHO has he beat?

He is not going to be using talent from a PAC school that had ok but not great recruiting. He will have much better recruits with an aTm than he would without Oregon.

Saban was 0-1 against the SEC before going to LSU so obviously he was going to bust when he went to the SEC, right?
